That told me Jaxson Hayes was a bust and a wasted pick?

That was me and I was wrong. I’ve never seen a player improve so move during the same season.

I would hope the FO isnt that short sighted. He was drafted as an insanely high upsided, yet raw, teen with very limited basketball experience. I think they are trying to let him mature, both physically and mentally, at a healthy pace. They are also making him earn it, which has proven to be a good thing.

I dont think anyone views the Adams resigning as the best decision but some credit is likely due him for Hayes growth and for keeping the pressure off of the youngun.

When he was drafted, he was a high upside pick that was not expected to contribute much immediately. I honestly thought he would be a G leaguer in year 1 and hopefully get a few minutes per game in year 2. He has actually exceeded expectations thus far and only very short sighted people said he was a bust. He was always a project that would hopefully pay off down the line. That looks more promising than ever now.

The criticism of Jax was legit because he truly wasn't trying to be a good player. Griff said something changed after the New Year's break where he came back and was more committed in the weight room and film room. I'm sure the FO was having its doubts too if he wasn't putting the work in. It's not about being short sighted, it's about would he develop quickly enough to pay off for the Pels, and the first month or so of the season it didn't look like he would.

Yeah Griff said he thought he would be in the G League year one. That tells me they thought year 2 would be more akin to a “rookie” year and Year 3 where he maybe puts things together and gets rotation minutes. That isn’t that uncommon with guys as raw as Jaxson.

I think they probably believe he’s ahead of the game now.

I get people had their doubts due to Jaxson’s play, but I never understood the level of criticism. We knew he was a project when we drafted him. Even when he was playing poorly, that was kind of what was expected.

The melts this season aren't about just this season. Every loss is a referendum on the team's entire history here. It's cluttered up the board a bit, but people feel what they feel.

What did you say in response? Or are you one of those people that "always knew he was good"?

Louisiana fans melt more in general it seems. Every LSU/Saints/Pels thread is a trainwreck of ignorance, stupidity, emotional takes, impatience, etc.

I'm guilty of it when it comes to this team, not so much the others.

It's because they're so inconsistent and such a rollercoaster ride. I've never followed a team with such peaks and valleys not just from game to game but quarter to quarter.

It's difficult to trust what you see because it's so scattershot.

Like one game Lonzo looks great and the next he shouldn't be on the floor. One minute Ingram has 15 points in the first quarter but by the 4th he only has 19.

It's a very strange team to follow.

astute

i find it depressing.
i try to be Pollyanna but im infected now by superstitious presumptions and now im starting to feel like Lucy is going to pull the ball back again.

as for Hayes i would not have picked him.
credit to pels mgmt and to him for turning it around during season.
in todays SBnation analysis of pels v memphis, Hayes is the featured offensive player Memphis has to address.
i didnt see that one coming.

Me. I bet you he searched himself up on social media to see what they were saying about him. He finally matured and changed his patterns. Beginning of the season, you can’t deny the guy regressed and was hurting the team. Also losing by 40 and a hour later posting about his fit or one average highlight. Glad he turned it around and I eat my crow.

that made ESPN, and not in a good way.

so now he, like Zion, needs to work on shooting away from basket.
hayes has proper form.
zion has much more to unlearn.

When you look back and realize the progress that both have made particularly Hayes, I mean he was really awful at first I really had my concerns and he has a long way to go but there is no arguing the improvement in him and to think they both are still 20 y.o. is mind boggling.
