46%
Fired more times than he's had winning seasons.

We let crappy Dirk and even crappier Barea dominate us.

I get what y’all are saying but... Terry Stotts was 115-168 prior to coming to Portland. When he’s had good, all around teams, we won 50+ games. Even after losing 4/5 starters, we’ve still made the playoffs.

Stotts studied under Carlisle prior to coming to Portland though. I have a feeling he’ll be fired in the next year or two. He’ll go a week without a job. He should have at least 5 teams to choose from to coach at next.

lol right on queue

We win 3 in a row---not a peep.

1 loss and the "fire the coach" crowd takes over the board.

They lost to Dallas. It’s who they lost to.

And if they lose to a good team, it's then about how they lost.

Duke is spot on with most of the Fire Gentry posts. Not saying he's particularly good, rather it's clockwork- Pels win, it's dead. Pels lose, multiple Fire Gentry posts.

Same story with Monty too

While I think the loss was concerning for its own reasons, and some issues Gentry still has me concerned with, it should be noted that Dallas in the month of December has beaten: San Antonio, Denver, Indiana, Toronto, and Detroit.

And Rick Carlisle is still an elite coach.

I don't think anyone is happy or okay with the loss. They played like arse most of the night and let a winnable game slip away.

But there should be more to discussion than flooding the board with "we lost; fire the coach" posts/threads. Alvin Gentry is certainly not THE reason the team lost last night

With Monty they had actual complaints about specific things they would do better like rotations and not having bigs come out on guards 25 feet from the basket.

99% of this board didn't want Gentry in the first place so the fire Gentry posts are all about chasing confirmation bias. The bottom line is firing Gentry mid season does nothing to improve the situation. Also considering most people are off Demps as well, what should be desired by most is stumbling into the playoffs. Enough success to keep Cousins, but enough failure to look at upgrading Demps/Gentry.

Last night their guards dominated us and we could not stay in front. Yet somehow, Jrue(our best on ball defender) sat for a 6 min stretch when our defense was sucking most. WTF is Gentry doing

Ok now let’s compare Gentry and Carlisle’s careers as HCs.

Like I said this team will be a .500 team with Al as coach. Is that good enough?

re: When you hire a coach who is about .500 for his career this is what you get
Remember how furious people were after the PTAO team lost to a terrible Knicks team? It was such a bad loss that MM misconstrued a "major firing" memo about the Saints to be about Monty. These bad losses should be taken into consideration at the end of the year when evaluations are made. But the team would need to be on fire to force something to happen early, and being .500 and the 8 seed is progress, not a fire, even if it is under achieving.

8th seed would probably save both their jobs. It shouldn’t but it probably will.

Maybe, maybe not. Gentry has a team option for next year so you can go one more year before having to commit to him again. I doubt they'd sign him to a new long term deal but maybe it is easier to just let things ride one more year. But if anyone at all in the organization wants change, these are the kind of bad losses you want to see. They're the kind of losses that let Demps make a case against Monty.
