Basketball players are never the same after an injury like this, much less guys Boogie’s size. This sucks so bad to even consider, but it may be the best business decision.

We are so damned cursed.

We weren't winning a title this year anyway so..

Move on and we suck and eventually lose Davis
Or...
Still Max him out, continue moving forward as planned, and hope he comes back and everything is fine or suck and lose davis eventually.

Ill take my chances bringing him back.

I love boogie, love his tenacity, the chemistry, etc., but if he comes back at 85% that’s a miracle. These types of injuries turn Elton brand from a budding star to a role player.

Would something like 3/60 be a good offer?

We don’t have an option. Landing Boogie was a once in a decade break for us. We have better odds of hoping we find some German stem cell platelet guru to rehabilitate him better than anyone else than we do of getting an equivalent player

Went from playing 38 MPG on a poor-middling team as a focal point to 30 MPG on a playoff caliber team as the 2nd or 3rd option

I mean he went from Cassell and Mobly who were 36 and 30 to 23yo Iggy and 20yo Brand?

He was still efficient shooting and solid rebounding in less minutes. his advanced stats also stayed relatively t he same.

This team is between a rock and a hard place. This is the doomsday option next to AD getting an injury like this. We probably shouldn’t give Cousins max money. He’s going to want it though, and AD will likely take Boogie’s side in any decision team vs Boogie. I’m sure he’d sign the long term deal now. We don’t even get to see how Davis and healthy Cousins would have played out. Now we have to wonder all over again Davis plus surgically repaired Cousins = ???? Top all of this off with the fact we were starting to play some very good ball and this is just a downright depressing night. All sorts of extra subplots that make this suck. Trading AD and moving on from Cousins does us no favors publicly. We basically have to stay the course in the court of public opinion among players.

Etc etc

Just beyond numb

Hanging on for a big win tonight could mean a lot in the short term future at least. Could have been an absolutely devastating night if we blew that game. Just carry on and don’t panic. We’ll be fine

This. Plus a few trips down to Costa Rica for those experimental stem cell treatments.

[Kevin Pelton] wrote about how players have performed coming back from Achilles injuries, noting that Rudy Gay of the San Antonio Spurs is on track to become just the fourth player out of 18 comebacks since 1990 to meet or exceed his pre-injury projection the following season.
4/18 = 22%.

22% isnt terrible - it's better odds than any other option

No.. u support him by giving him what he has earned, it will motivate him and show AD we are a class organization making both parties happy. It's 2018 not 2007, and Elton brand.. good, but not DeMarcus good. I'm confident he will not only come back, but be just as good as he ever was, he doesn't truly rely on athleticism so this injury will not ruin his playstyle at all which shouldn't hamper his production on offense

I had some Achilles issues recently and did some research on this. While the injury is bad, using Mehmet Okur and other examples from 10-20 years ago is very minimally relevant to an injury today. There are advanced surgery and rehab techniques even compared to 5-10 years ago. Boogie's age and the fact that he doesn't rely on explosiveness should also help him in returning.

He needs to get his arse to Dr Martin O'Malley (Rudy's guy) stat. He is the preeminent ortho for foot/ankle issues. He is a Nets team physician. Wes Matthews went to a much lesser known doc out in California. I would imagine with Rudy and Boogie being friends that Rudy will be calling Boogie with an O'Malley recommendation.

First thing I’ve read that actually has me positive about moving forward. Great post and observations,

I love boogie. I'm just playing devil's advocate. The team has to look at every angle before handing over 175m dollars.

Dammit, we were just starting to get it!!!
