We need an alpha

Gentry said last night this is the quietest team he's ever been around. On the court, in the bus, on the plane, in practice, nobody communicates.
First, I think Gentry needs to take a page out of Sean Payton's book and cancel practice and just take the guys on a team building exercise, like when Payton brought the team to a waterpark.
Second, I don't know how we can pull it off this far into the season, but we HAVE to make a trade for an alpha that will speak up in the locker room and hold guys accountable. I don't know who is/will be available that could do that, the only one that comes to mind is Iggy, but doubt he would want to come here now. Maybe (hopefully) when Zion comes back he can be that guy, but I don't see his personality as being the one to call guys out like Butler would.

Apparently JJ lit into them at halftime...in one ear out the other.

By that point, to little to late..
They need someone that will direct on defense.. Jrue SHOULD be that guy, but instead of trying to communicate and get they guys where they need to be, he just focuses on someone and says nothing

I’ll give JJ Redick credit as he’s trying to be that vocal leader, but agree we need a stronger presence.
Also another reason Gentry needs to be fired because if leadership is lacking from the players side, then the head coach needs to be that strong voice.

I don't think I have ever seen Lonzo talk on the court.
This is what happens when you build your team around Jrue. The dude is an introvert that wants to be a quite Robin.

Like AD alluded to last night, the coach can only preach so much to players before they begin to tune him or any coach out.. Players NEED another player to push them

Granted i don't interact with the team obviously, but it looks like there's two factions on the team, the new young guys, and then the older guys and the AD Pels guys.
Our rookies and Lakers guys seem to interact a good bit, as they have something in common being on a new team and being young.
Our new vets in JJ and Favors and then the AD guys like Jrue, Frank, Etwaun, Kenrich seem to sort of be on their own.
I know they all interact, but you look at the AD pels guys, Jrue, Frank, Etwaun and Kenrich, and none of them are outspoken at all.
The commardarie you saw in the summer league with those guys, and then in the preseason with the young guys making the comebacks in every game looked great, and you just don't see that right now with the whole team.
Maybe the new guys aren't sure if they are supposed to take over the team. Maybe the older guys feel like they aren't the focal point of the team anymore. I don't know.
I can't see any way in which the new guys were happy about AD being invited into the locker room, especially the Laker players.
I do'nt really want to trade Jrue, but I'm leaning more towards lets just get rid of everything from the AD time and start over with our new guys. Favors and Redick didn't sign up to babysit. They thought they would be winning, or at least competing while helping the young guys.
If we are going to suck, lets at least suck while trying to improve the games of our younger guys.
NAW has barely been playing lately, and the only reason i think he is playing is b/c we are getting blown out.
NAW had a 4 game stretch where he played 21 minutes, 35, 30 and 16. We won 3 of those 4 games. Lonzo didn't play in them. The only game he's played since then that was anywhere close to those minutes was the embarrassing blowout loss to Dallas, and we are 1-11 since then, with NAW getting a few DNP's in there.
I"m not saying NAW is going to lead us to victories, or that he's the reason we won those games, but i do'nt see the point in him not playing meaningful minutes. I really don't care if we lose with him and Jaxson playing minutes. It's better than losing with Okafor and Etwaun getting their minutes.
Fire Gentry, let an assistant take over and hire someone in the offseason, shop Jrue, Favors, and Redick around, and commit to developing the younger guys.

Think you are on to something. Zion, Jax, and NAW are always tweeting at each other and tagging each other in things on Instagram. Ingram and Hart seem to be on the same page, and to a lesser extent, seem to interact with the rookies. At this point let’s just go young and treat it like a long summer league. Would rather lose with rookies going 110% than Jrue playing like arse and JJ going 3/10 from 3.

I agree with you.
