The Western Conference stinks this year as compared to past years. Our division REALLY stinks.

This team is playing hard. This team is playing defense. This team is losing.

Its clearly a hardworking group of guys that like each other. They are playing extremely hard for Willie, unlike last year for Stan.

Jonas is a beast. Herb Jones has been awesome and if he didn't get his face destroyed last night, decent chance we win that game or its down to the buzzer.

The are keeping things close until the last few minutes in most games.

The reason: 52 (or 27) points are sitting on the bench every night, and 3 of our draft picks just are not playing well.

And there isn't a whole lot we can do about 27 of those points. He's not going to be here for the first 30 games. If he was here and not 400 pounds so many of those issues would be minimized: scoring, spacing, guys who shouldn't be getting so many minutes getting minutes...

But he isn't here and won't be for awhile.

This was a prime opportunity. We could be in the thick of things right now. But we aren't, and we won't be.

So frustrating.

Its rare that I stay up late and watch all of a WC game, I agree with everything you said. I think the big test for Willie is keeping their heads in it, especially after this road trip.

having hope or at least interest in how zion changes things could keep them invested until zion can play.

They're 28th in defensive efficiency right now, and I don't see how that gets better. That's something the front office has done an absolutely awful job at, who are the good defenders on this team?

I think we have a couple guys that hover around average, Jonas for example. I've actually thought Devonte Graham has been...servicable. I know we're high on Herb. But there's nobody on this roster that I look at right now and is like "that guy is a great defender."

Frustrating and disappointing

I think it’s safe to say I don’t think I’ve been more disappointed with the team at any stage supporting.

The only positive is that by some miracle when Zion and BI are back and we happen to fire on all cylinders , all the way into the playoffs, it might be the best experience at any stage.

But that’s a lot of ifs bits and maybes.

biggest comeback ever.
miracle!
i dont know what the biggest # of games back for playoff recovery really is but emotionally it will be.

i admit i dont hope anymore that pels make 10th.
the pit is deep and getting deeper. tonight is a back to back. tough when you have 2 starters out.

To me the remarkable thing about Herb is he's coming in and kind of being the lead defender as a rookie. Yes he's a 4 year college guy, but rookies are notoriously bad on defense, even the ones that come in as defensive specialists.

But like Jrue demonstrated, you can have a 1st team all defense level guy, but if the team as a whole can't defend, that one guy ain't saving you.

And a lot of the same problems from last year have carried over. We can't guard the arc and we are terrible in the clutch.

For all the love Jonas rightfully gets on offense and the boards, he's presenting the same problem in defensive pick and rolls as Adams did. And that has been the way teams have just annihilated us and turned close games into blowouts by just spamming the pick and roll against Jonas and dissecting us from there.

BI and Zion would help that by being able to counter with buckets of their own, but the defensive problems wouldn't change, and arguably could get worse.

Yep, this is my point. It's why I'm still of the opinion that this franchise very well may come to a crossroads with Zion and BI in terms of their defensive abilities.

But if Zion can't get his weight in check he may make that decision for them.

Oh and I should say, Trey Murphy, for a rookie, has been a quality defender so far. In my opinion anyway.

They're trying on defense, but overall we've been really bad at defense.

Herb is essentially the lone bright spot.
