Thanks for this. I've requested a sticky as I think it's nice to have at the top.

I agree with the playoff odds in that link. For the last spot in the west they have the odds at NO 30%, SA 29%, POR 24%. I think when it boils down to the end of the season that's who we're going to challenge. We play the Spurs a couple times at the very end of the year too.

Good analysis. We have to consider the other teams between us and 8th. It’s a race, it’s not just “3.5 games back”. It’s “3.5 games back” with 4 teams ahead of us. Gotta beat them H2H. SOS looks good though

The reason we’re a few games back is because of how front loaded our schedule was. The NBA was trying heavily to get ratings from Zion’s debut, and it winded up with us playing elite teams without him.

Seems a bit flawed to use outdated rankings for SOS but I guess it os better than nothing.

What makes you think theyre outdated? the power rankings guru site used for the SOS looks like they update rankings weekly if not daily.

The explanation for SOS says it is based off of final 2018-2019 rankings

Thank you for pointing this out, since I posted I found another source using remaining teams winning % instead of last years final rankings. I'll update it momentarily.

For the most part the positioning is still oddly similar except for the Spurs.

I think something we've seen from out team, even in the preseason, is that our 2nd string guys can help us win the games against the mediocre teams in the league if our starters aren't playing well. The energy they bring does wonders.

I'm hoping that we can feast on the mediocre east teams, as well as the west teams that are getting ready to give up. When i say feast, i mean win like 80% of them at a minimum. Do that, and hope to play near .500 against the playoff teams and we'll be alright.

San Antonio is the only team I'm worried about. Their SOS remaining isn't nearly as bad as the rest of the teams ahead of us. And we have to beat out all of those teams listed if we wanna get in because it will be very hard to catch OKC.

It's still very doable though. We just need to go on a bit of a run and hope the Spurs don't do the same

Portland is the biggest threat imo. With the acquisition of Ariza and the return of Nurkic, they are primed to make a post all-star run.

I would be really nice to make the playoffs, but i think getting to .500 would be an amazing way to finish the season even if we didn't make the playoffs.

They aren't going to get Zach Collins back before then, either. And, of course, they lost Rodney Hood to a torn achilles.

They are wasting Lillard's prime and they know it, which is why they are likely to make a trade to try to fight for the #8 seed. They hope that getting a player in a trade, and then getting Collins and Nurkic in time for the playoffs, they can still be reasonably competitive in the playoffs.

We play San Antonio 4 times. 4 wins against them will keep us ahead of them.
