Portland could make a run. They have just been a really good regular season team, it's kind of odd seeing them in the 10th spot.

two starters out.

****The 7th spot may also be up for grabs over the next few weeks....OKC (28-19) may be selling at the trade deadline. Something else to keep an eye on.

i'm curious why people keep saying this.
they are firmly a playoff team

adams is 26 years old
paul is going nowhere
gallo and roberson come off the books and would be rentals for their new teams

who else are they going to sell?

Nah, away games against playoff teams aren't must-win games. We just need two of those three.

i think it’s a luxury tax thing. They’re gonna have to pay A LOT of money after the deadline if they don’t get rid of some of these high salaries. They know they aren’t gonna make a deep run in the playoff. So just depends what their owner wants to do.

Why does it feel impossible that Steven Adams is 26 years old?

And Cleveland is playing the 2nd game of a back to back. Hopefully Denver can take care of Memphis

Also, Phoenix isnt tanking and they are 1.5 games ahead of us. We probably shouldn't write them off right now. Seems like they are a little different team with Ayton healthy.

The problem right now is 9-14 all seem to think they have shot at the 8th seed, which they do, so we just have to keep winning games and fight for that spot.

If Phoenix didn't have by far the hardest schedule remaining I'd agree with you.

I just don't see them going .500 the rest of the way and they'd likely have to be better than that in order to make up some ground to the 3 teams ahead of them currently and keep a team like the Pels (with the 2nd easiest schedule remaining) off their back.

Watch how Blazers handle the next 9 games before all star break: Houston, Lakers, 2x Utah, Denver, SA, Miami - then BtB aways at Nola and Memphis. Could be a 9 game L streak which would move us ahead. Then we just have to keep pace. We have a much easier schedule.

Memphis will fall out in the last month - schedule is impossible.

San Antonio always surprises

Fair enough, I didnt see their SoS. Thats a hard task. Kind of hard to say this when you're under .500 but it seems like their tanking is finally show a little success. The Suns, Knicks and even the 76ers are why im pretty hard against tanking. Its not at all a proven method of winning. Even less so now that the #1 pick isnt guaranteed.

I still stand by my belief that, while there may be 5 teams vying for one playoff spot, the team that the NBA WANTS as the 8th seed, is the Pelicans.

Marketing team probably already have a desktop folder full of "Lakers / Pelicans playoffs ideas"

Now if only we could MAKE FREAKIN FREE THROWS

creeping towards the good place

based on ORTG & DRTNG, the pels are basically the same team as DET, PHX, MEM, and closer to POR & SAS than they are to the elite teams. this really shows the spread between the contenders and the pretenders. pels must improve on defense, bottom line
