You're banking on Zion doing something he's yet to do for 5 seasons straight, giving a frick going into the season. And even if he does that, he has take a leap of the likes I'm not sure who has taken a similar leap before from year 5 to 6. So it's doing something Zion himself has never done and also doing something I'm not sure who has done at all before.
SGA went from year 4 averaging 24/6/5, no all star talk and definitely no MVP, to finishing 5th in MVP the following year averaging 31/6/5, and then finished 2nd in MVP this year.
Jokic had his jump from year 3 to 4 sort of. Didn't make the playoffs for first 3 years, then gets to a game 7 in round 2, and finishes 4th in MVP voting. Year 3 wasn't even an all-star year. But his year 5 to 6 jump is when the stats got better and he won MVP.
Yes i'm assuming Zion's coming in to this season in shape and ready to go. He's a professional and i've got to think he's maturing and coming around to the realization of what is needed to be a better player. Jokic was fat and out of shape his first few years. Lost weight and got in better shape and he's now one of the best players to ever play.

Zion has growth left as a playmaker. His assists per 100 possessions has gone from 3.5 --> 5.3 --> 6.7 --> 7.8. I believe with a healthy and in shape off-season for Zion combined with him becoming the guy for the Pels (assuming a BI trade) and Griff forcing Willie to play more shooters, Zion's playmaking takes another leap next season.

I mean if you don't think Zion can be an MVP level guy none of this shite matters. It's probably not gonna happen, but it's the only hope you have.

Switching gears... What would it take for the Pacers to trade Andrew Nemhard to the Pels?
Watched him this year contribute consistently off the bench, where he averaged 10pts and 4 assists /25 min. per game. But, he took it to another level when he filled in as a starter in the Boston series due to the Halliburton injury. He had 24 and 32 points in game 3 and 4, respectively.
I'm convinced Nemhard is a starting caliber PG in the League. If he gets his 3pt shot just a Lil better and with starter minutes, I envision him being able to average 20 points per game and 8 assists.
He's got 2 years left on his rookie deal @ a little over 2mil/pr year. They got TJ McConnell as their primary backup PG to Haliburton. Pacers need more length at the wings.
I can envision B.I. going to Indiana and working some type of 3 way trade where we get a starting caliber Center, Nemhard as our PG and some 1st round picks.

Nembhard might be a fine young player but if hes the center piece of your BI trade thats highly dissapointing. Nembhard shined in a couple games in the playoffs but not sure if hes even close to an all star caliber player.

Nembhard would be awesome, but probably unavailable after the great showing he just had. Yes, absolutely he would be a great main piece to get back in an Ingram (on an expiring contract seeking a max extension) trade.
Only thing-- Haliburton and Siakam are both starting huge contract extensions next season. Turner is on the last year of his deal which will be 20+ at least. Doesn't seem financially aound for them to add Ingram and his huge contract to the mix while rounding out the roster.
But yea, if it's a 3rd team that could want Ingram, sending those players to the Pacers, other salary to Pels, then I would love having Nembard join as the lead guard of the future for the Pels. Could be a Brunson or Haliburton situation, guard emerging as a star with a new team of his own.

Nembhard is no where near that good. He had a couple decent games in playoff losses and hes being compared to Haliburton and Brunson? You guys are really living in the moment.
Im not even a BI fan but even I know hes a better player than Nembhard. This is a guy who literally averaged 9 points in the regular season- what are we seriously doing here??

This is an example of a type of swing we’d have to take. It would be like taking a swing on Naz Reid 2-3 years ago.
Even though Nem has just burst on the scene more recently, he’s been clutch as hell the second he’s entered the league. He has numerous huge game winners in both the regular season and now in the playoffs. I honestly think he’s damn near equal to a CJ McCollum right now and he’s ascending while CJ is descending.
I doubt Indy would even let him go, but if there is indeed a chance to go get him, we should at least make a call.

CJ gets traded for Naz Reid. Not sure the specifics of the entire deal.
And BI gets traded and we land Murray out of that deal and a couple picks. Nance probably gets added to the deal as well.

Agreed he seems like a player that will explode when he gets to be the starting PG on his own team. Maybe not a Brunson level ascension but I can see him being a fringe All-Star PG like a Mike Conely

I think the Knicks would be open to getting off Mitchell Robinson. Hartenstein has been amazing for him and they want to resign him.
BI + EJ + 24 1st for Murray + Okongwu
Larry + 2 2nds for Mitchell Robinson (The Knicks save 3M this season and 13M next season by taking Larry's expiring)
That puts you about 12.5M under the tax with 12 guys on the roster.
Sign Karlo and maybe try to re-sign Naji?
Murray/Dyson/Jose
Herb/CJ/Hawk
Trey/Naji/Matt Ryan
Zion/JRE
Robinson/Okongwu/Karlo

Once again, are we trying to accumulate assets or win games? We're setup to win games if we surround Zion, Trey, and Herb with a very good guard and a rim protecting center.
This would be another asset accumulation trade, which IMO we don't need to do. We should be looking to upgrade BI, not trade him for 2 quarters and a few dimes.

Unless we are getting a better player than BI back we should not be adding picks to him.

Exactly, the guys that are proven to be really good for many seasons are unavalable or would cost a lot of assets (not available in a BI trade). Also, Nemhard will be making 2 mil. next season, then team option for 2 mil. or can sign an affordable extension. vs. Ingram's 36 mil. next season then will seek a new four year contract that pays him about 50 mil. per season.
So people comparing Nemhard to BI are looking at it very narrowly. It's really Nembhard + 30 mil. in salary space to make other moves vs. BI and his next contract demands, minus the cap flexibility to improve other positions.

This in the immediate future will not make you more competitive. Its just a move setting up another move in the future. I just don’t think that’s what we need right now. Salary issues and Cap Flexibility are issues that rebuilding teams care about not ones that are trying to become immediate contenders in a highly competitive conference.

You think?
He played in 31 games this year
He played in 59 games the year before
He played in 72 the year before that
He played in 31 games the year before that
25 mpg and he averages 8 and 8, and he's a career 50% FT shooter.
2 years left at $14M/yr. Absolutely not.

I'm curious on what the Nets plans are and if Mikal is availalbe, b/c if he is, that's who I want back in a BI trade. Herb/Mikal/Trey/Zion core would be legit.
What if we were to send BI to Houston.
Houston keeps #3 this year, but gives Brooklyn back their 2025 and 2027 pick swaps, as well as their 2026 first. Brooks goes to the Nets, Londale to Pels
Pels send Brooklyn a 2026 first and 2028 1st.
Pels get Mikal Bridges.
That gives the Nets 2 picks in 2025, 2026, 2028, 2029 and 3 in 2027, and they control all of their own picks again.
quote:
Team owner Joe Tsai recently talked about taking a “longer-term approach” to team-building, and the hiring of a player development specialist like Jordi Fernandez as Brooklyn’s new head coach suggests the organization isn’t looking to take big swings after a 32-50 season unless a can’t-miss opportunity falls into its lap. I’d be surprised if the Nets make a blockbuster win-now deal this offseason — it makes more sense to build up the roster patiently and incrementally like they did the last time they went through a retooling process without their own draft picks.
quote:
Could it be in the Nets’ best interest, long-term, to consider a Bridges deal with Houston that would return their own 2026 pick and eliminate those ’25 and ’27 swap rights? Even if this year’s No. 3 pick isn’t included in the package (it could be), regaining control of those future picks would put Brooklyn in position to properly rebuild with valuable lottery picks in the next year or two. They could take the rebuild a step further by also entertaining trade offers for wings Dorian Finney-Smith and Cameron Johnson, both of whom would hold real appeal for playoff teams.
