It was just this past season.

OK when I glanced at BPR earlier I just saw the last 3 entries. Didn't realize that was just 1 season b/c I was just looking over it quickly.

CJ isn't an elite shooter today
He's sub-40% from 3
He was 16th in 3pt attempts per game last season and his 38.8% was 2nd highest of those 16, lnly5trailing Fournier at 38.9%.

There are a lot of mitigating factors for CJ this past year. Injury, trade, newborn, Dame either not playing or playing poorly. I bet he bounces back just fine this coming season.

listened this weekend to SXM nba radio for the first time in a while. Post draft the conversation is 50% nets (Irving/Durant) and 50% Knicks. I guess that’s not too surprising but it occurs to me how unsatisfying it must be to be a fan (or have to cover) either of those teams
neither has won anything in decades (or at all). Neither have any homegrown talent to speak of. Neither have a “culture” of anything other than mercantilism. Neither have a plan other than “spend more than the other guy” and “we are in New York”.
even in the darkest days (and remember we have won anything yet either) I wouldn’t trade places.
the nets had a fun, homegrown team and they blew it all up for the two softest players in the league. The Knicks had the makings of a team but they’ve abandoned their plan and now are back to FA hunting
by the way, only poverty franchises work with cap space as their plan.

Honestly I’m going against the grain. I’m not interested in moving Hayes right now. I’d rather move him during the season if we need to.

If he can't improve enough for basic PT, then I doubt has any value to raise.
I’m moving Hayes ASAP. The likelihood of him being elsewhere at some point over the next 7 months is extremely high, and every month you hold onto him the less value he has. This teams best course of action to improve this offseason is putting some combination of Hayes/Temple/Graham into a trade together so you can take back more salary.

San Antonio and Atlanta remain engaged on trade conversations regarding a larger deal centered around Dejounte Murray and John Collins, sources said.
We’ll get into all the trade and free agency scuttle with @BigWos tomorrow at 7:30pm ET on @getcallin:

It makes me wonder if SAS would be interested in moving Poeltl.

How much do y’all think Mo Bamba would cost? He seems like a very good option as the back up C and eventually take Jonas’s spot in a year or so. I don’t think the Magic want to re-sign him

More than we want to pay.
If we do a sign and trade, we are hard capped at the tax. Current roster is about $7m below that, not counting our 2nd rounder or any UDFAs who get regular (not 2 way) deals.
Edit - We would have to send out probably $15-20m in salaries plus one or more picks depending on protection
The pisser on that is that we shouldn’t do anything with our 2023 pick due to the Laker swap rights, so any pick would be a 2024 or later OR a pick belonging to the Lakers or Bucks.
Way too rich for Bomba.

Hard capped at the apron, not the tax. I don’t really see us going into the tax this season anyway, unless we are the 1 or 2 seed around the trade deadline.
re: The Official NBA Free Agency/Offseason Thread Update: MITCHELL TO CLEPosted by BallHawk on 6/26/22 at 10:31 pm to Macintosh504
If we do a S&T it would be about 50% of the value of his contract for the trade. If it we do 4/40 it would be $7.5m so we'd only have to send out Hayes and Temple or really just Temple but I'd try to send out Hayes as well...
Pretty sure we have to send out the full value of his contract even if his book value is less than the full amount.
Usually that means a three team trade or enough cap space to absorb the new player without sending out salary.

I don't understand. Hayes has very little value now. He's not likely to have more at the trade deadline. And, in any case, we are unlikely to be out of the playoff race and ready to dump him then, though we might trade him if we've had an injury at guard.
Otherwise, the most reasonable thing to do is to just keep him this season and then let him go.
re: The Official NBA Free Agency/Offseason Thread Update: MITCHELL TO CLEPosted by TigerinATL on 6/27/22 at 7:17 am to GOP_Tiger
If you keep Hayes it's because you think he can rehab his value, or just want his contract for a bigger trade later. To increase his value he'd have to improve enough to beat out Nance and Trey for minutes. If he doesn't and you play him to showcase him anyway, he's this year's Temple, costing the team games while better players sit on the bench.
The Magic were in a similar situation with Elfrid Payton back in the day. They ended up trading him for 2nds at the deadline at the same place in his contract cycle. That's probably the best you can get with Jaxson. I don't think there's any reason to make that trade later vs. now. Let's be real, even if Jaxson added 10 pounds of muscle this summer, that's not going to make him have better basketball instincts, which is his true problem.

Would he have any base level player effects?

On the surface I would agree, but Hayes is most valuable right now for his salary. It could help a lot with matching salary in a trade.

If The team is over the salary cap, it extends the player's rookie scale contract, and the player receives a raise greater than 20%, the provision applies.
A player remains a base year player for six months, or until June 30, whichever comes later.
When trading a base year player, the salary used for comparison is the player's previous salary, or 50% of the first-year salary in his new contract, whichever is greater.
