it's already legislated. All that recruiting the Warriors did of KD was technically tampering

What does it say specifically?

I can't find the link I ran into earlier that quoted the exact section of the CBA, but this link from Reddit has most of the relevant text.

quote:

Any Player who, directly or indirectly, entices, induces, persuades or attempts to entice, induce, or persuade any Player, Coach, Trainer, General Manager or any other person who is under contract to any other Exhibit A A-25 Member of the Association to enter into negotiations for or relating to his services or negotiates or contracts for such services shall, on being charged with such tampering

LINK

Here's Larry Coon's explanation of it relating specifically to players

quote:

Player-to-player tampering is considered to be a relatively common occurrence, and while technically illegal, it is rarely addressed by the league. For instance during the 2016 playoffs, Mavericks player Chandler Parsons referred to Rockets player Dwight Howard saying, "[. . .] I think he can still be a player in this league. And I think he's going to leave Houston, so why not come here?" Former Commissioner David Stern clarified in 2012 that such player-to-player recruitment is generally "not tampering or collusion that is prohibited."

LINK

Again, it's all technically illegal they just never enforce it when it comes to players.

Yeah. To me, it's such a grey area.

Guys are always thinking about their next contract. About where they want to play, who they want to play with. hell, there's a reason teams and FA agree to deals at 12:01am on July 1 and it ain't because they aren't worried about details. For a while the Bucks seemed only interested in clients of Jason Kidd's agent, KCP's deals with LA, etc etc etc

Now, the LeBron/Klutch thing is an extra layer of shady. Reminds me of superpac "coordination" in politics.

This isn't just an extra layer of shady, this is a direct threat to the power of the owners. I don't know what they're going to do but I have to think this whole situation will make them want to do something about agents. I believe agents are certified by the players union so the league has no authority...for now. I don't see how you can legislate against a player saying "I only want to play for one team." But the fact that Philly won't get involved because Simmons has the same agent seems like a kind of collusion that needs to be purged from the system.

Still not going to make elite players want to play in New Orleans.
