Looking back at the trade a couple years later, would you prefer Tatum/Smart and nothing else or the package we ended up with from the Lakers.

My first choice at the time was to give the Grizz whatever we obtained to get #2 for Ja. My second choice was to get Tatum. I wasn’t very high on BI though. Also didn’t want to pay all the extensions that were coming up so soon as we are realizing now. But I think at least the last of the Lakers picks may turn out pretty good.

Just curious since I’ve been seeing a lot of trade BI posts lately.

I mean Tatum is a much better overall player and can actually play defense

What’s the point in even answering this now before we know what those picks turn into?

Crewz constantly floated that Tatum bullshite, but all I remember hearing was Brown+Smart+picks

pels memphis #2 ie morant

memphis Tatum smart and pels pick

boston the lakers haul. or Davis

I'm not saying boston likes this.
I'm trying to restate your post in specifics.
do I have it right?
do you trade davis to boston?
I think it looked like davis was not into boston. agent wanted lakers.

This board, me included, loved Tatum but also really undervalued Ingram. It doesn't matter though because Ainge never put Tatum on the table, so Tatum vs. Ingram was never a choice. Just like trading for Ja was never a choice either.

From what I recall, Griff tried to turn most of the Lakers' haul into the #2 to get Ja, but Memphis wasn't even considering it.

Tatum and it’s not really that close.

I would prefer Tatum.

But the Lakers deal was so much better. I would have immediately flipped all those assets. Traded everybody (including Holiday). I wanted 5 lottery picks and multiple 1sts for years to come. The Process on steroids..

A significant number of people were freaked out about Ingram's blood clot which as expected has been a non-issue.

Their 2021 numbers are actually very close, essentially it amounts to Ingram being slight more valuable on offense and Tatum on defense

Of course there is a bit of receny bias at play here that is likely clouding your judgement, as the Celts made the playoffs and Tatum went next level for 5 games.

Tatum wasn't on the block for that decision to be made.

Memphis turned down every offer made for #2, as stated by Griff after the draft.

So neither of those are viable, so why even ask?

I’ve read conflicting reports that Ainge put Tatum on the table but nothing else. Also read that he tried to push Brown Smart and the Grizz pick for AD, which was the smarter play.

The initial reports were we would get Tatum and Brown and possibly the Grizz first if AD gave assurances but the opposite happened.

Tatum wasn’t quite the player he is now. Even Crewz kinda backed off him before the trade and compared him to Danny Granger. Didn’t think his ceiling was going to be very high.

I’m sure they turned down every offer he made. But what were those offers?

I find it hard to believe they would turn down say, BI and #4 for #2. I know Griff didn’t make that offer. I’m sure he tried to float Lonzo #4 and possibly other future firsts. I’m not sure you can say those were real serious offers.

It’s just something to discuss. Saw a list posted during a playoff game of the top 5 players under age 25, Doncic was first of course, but they had Tatum ranked 2nd. Reminded me how we could have had Tatum if not for Klutch and AD being such little bitches.

Don’t get the Ingram slander on this board. Ingram is a top ten SF and everyone who isn’t KD ain’t close.

Ingram is definitely a good player but there’s people that question if his style of play translates to winning. Then there’s the question of how he fits with Zion. And he does have to at least become average on defense. I personally want to see him and Zion surrounded by shooters and some better defenders. I think if Ingram doesn’t take a significant leap then maybe you explore a trade at the deadline? Or next off season.

Ingram adjusted his game to allow both Zion and Zo to grow. That is a team leader and there is no stat for that. Ask C.P.
