They will see this as a storm they need to weather. It's not just about pleasing the fans today, you also can't make every coach you're going to interview think you'll hang them out to dry as a scapegoat the minute something goes sideways. Unless you think Finch can do a much better job than Gentry, there's really no benefit to firing Gentry now.

This was the other point I wanted to make but felt my responses(like usual) can ramble on for too long.

Part of being an alluring destination for the top head coach prospects is that you don't signal out you will fire them off when injuries pile up and seasons start below expectations.

I mean if you are the next Steve Kerr or Brad Stevens, which Pelicans franchise entices you more? The one that feels like you will be in a pit and pendulum situation every season? Or the one that demonstrated coaches won't be the first thrown under the bus when things go awry?

And regarding keeping Finch, unless he thinks building an offense around Zion/Ingram pads his resume better than other opportunities, he probably needs to move on to advance his career. If they hire a new HC I expect Finch will be gone.

I mean unless it is a head coaching gig, there really isn't much room to go up after being lead offensive assistant?

I think he has a greater than 50% shot of leaving, but a lot of that will come down to who we bring in.

Never liked the hire in the first place.

Hated the hire then, hate it now.

I thought monty was limited in coaching, but I felt that part of his issues were due to demps giving him players who didn't do what he wants (I.e. Defend) or trash in general, while ignoring small forward.

I will say, monty coached his arse off though and he deserves a ton of praise for the playoff run.

As for Gentry, he had easily more talent than monty during his entire tenure and he can't maximize a guy's talent.
