Solomon Hill will have his best year as a Pelican this year. It’s a contract year for him and probably his last potential big one.
I agree, he should have a phenomenal season and really help the Pelicans...
....Because barring injuries, he slots perfectly into the rotation with a defensive niche no one else can match. He’s gonna guard the shite out of the end of the bench.

He’s an expiring. He turns into an asset. Why does everyone want to shed assets to dump him now?

i think it's just unfamiliarity with how these things work. why i try not to be too snarky about it
just as a primer for guys who aren't deeper-level NBA guys
hill is no longer a player to the Pels. his contract is his value, b/c it's expiring. an expiring contract has a lot of value because you can use it to match salaries with an established player who the club doesn't value. for example, the oft-rumored myles turner. the only reason we could get him so cheaply (4 + hill's contract) is because IND wants his salary off the books
these are the types of moves small market teams have to master to be good, b/c we won't be acquiring elite guys in free agency (so allowing the contract to expire to get cap space is a -EV move)
