So now that Ty Lue is out of the bubble...
Do we see the ball roll on some hires?

It seems like a few teams...us, the Clippers, Rockets, are all interested in him. Its clear to me that someone will hire him this cycle and its been a thought of mine that he is the domino that needs to fall before teams make other hires.

So, will things start to happen quickly, like by this weekend?

After his sole accomplishment of riding lebron to a title and his stellar work on this Clippers team, I for one can’t wait to entrust the future of our franchise to Ty Lue.

With free agency and the draft being pushed back so far, I think Griff will follow the slow mantra he’s been saying. I think he’s trying to check all the boxes before hiring someone. If Lue gets hired within the next couple of weeks, I don’t think it will be as a Pelican

He did say we would be very slow and deliberate, and we wanted to conduct in person interviews.

It also makes me think that they won't really be considering the coach's input on the roster, but rather sort of the other way around, hiring a coach based on their future plans for the roster.

If they wait until after the Finals, which is very possible if they want to interview guys still in, then they will have already done a lot of draft work and FA prep.

Based on how many ready to contend coaches are on the market this year, I think it’s pretty safe to say the Pelicans are going to get their guy. I’m less worried about it now than I was when the Pelicans season first ended.

Some of y’all are insane.

Lue might not be great. He may be incredible. But winning a title with LeBron shouldn’t detract from his ability to coach.

How many titles has Spo won without LeBron? But no one looks at him and says “LeBron made you.”

re: So now that Ty Lue is out of the bubble...
Yeah people don’t do that for several reasons.

1) Spo was personally groomed and hand picked to coach the Heat by Pat Riley, one of the greatest coaches and NBA leaders of all time. The closest thing Ty Lue has to that level of tutelage is his work under Doc Rivers, the only coach in NBA history to blow three separate 3-1 series leads.

2) Spo coached the young, not yet fully formed version of Lebron. The Lebron who choked in the finals and didn’t yet know how to win. Lebron himself admitted that his time in Miami was like basketball college. By the time he returned to Cleveland the second time he was LeGM and LeCoach. Spo/Riley helped mold Lebron into the leader and player he has become, whereas Lue’s primary attribute, documented attribute, was he had a good relationship with LeGM and LeCoach.

3) Finally, people did say that about Spo after Lebron left. However, he stuck it out and has won three division titles post Lebron and is on pace to take the least talented team to the Finals we’ve seen in quite some time. Lue coached the Lebron less Cavs to the worst record in the league for a half season and then quit.

Tl;dr - Lue sucks and Spo is awesome and there’s documented proof why.

Lue also played for 10+ years and you’re purposely devaluing Rivers while probably overvaluing Riley for the sake of your argument.

LeBron had already won two MVPs and was robbed of a third before he went to Miami. You’re making it sound like he had just come into the league.

Three division titles
Orlando, Charlotte, Atlanta, and Washington really pushed them each year.

How many coaches have gone up against the coaches that Lue went up against and won?

???

He was fired 6 games into the season after LeBron left

re: So now that Ty Lue is out of the bubble...
My bad I was remembering his chest pain leave of absence from the year before and got them conflated. Was thinking he pulled an Urban Meyer.

I stand corrected, he was fired after going 0-6. So Lue has literally never won a game without Lebron.

ETA: Also playing for ten plus years in the nba is a negative not a positive. All the best coaches in the league never played or barely played in the NBA.

Spo/Stevens/Nurse/Bud/Popp/Snyder/Malone/D’Antoni/Donovan.

And Lebron was by far the best player in the league when her got to Miami. But he wasn’t nearly the de facto coach he was when he returned to Cleveland under Lue. There was an article today in the Ringsr by Jonathan Tjarks talking about how Lebron, not Lue, outlined the roles and contributions he expected from every single player on those Cavs teams.

It’s the safest bet on his part. Lue has been rumored to us from the beginning and it’s the only coach we are rumored to have met with.

That’s a good staff. Lue is a boring hire but a lot of people respect him. I’m not going to do back flips but I will definitely give him a chance. That staff would be legit.

Ya think? Seems like an outdated system. Do we even have the pieces to pull it off?

Lue isn’t a triangle guy at all I don’t think. He’s a pace guy.

But Shaw is 100% a triangle disciple.

No. He said he’s taking his shot. A later tweet talked about Lue running out of options.
