Didn’t realize but if we had lost to the kings, we’d only be one game out from getting that #7 pick lol.

When have the basketball gods rewarded blatant tanking with lottery luck? Even during the Philly Process years they only got the 1st pick 1 out of 4 years.

I said earlier in the season don't tank, just keep doing what they're doing and let the chips fall where they may. The strategy seems to have worked out as the basketball gods saw fit to smite LeBron and AD.

Potentially we might wish for it in hindsight, but the risk would be too much and likely fuel the Spurs efforts that much more.

Let’s not get greedy… some great play, playoffs and picking 8 without your young superstar all season is a damn good return for the year !

The only issue that concerns me picking 8 is Sharpe, if he doesnt declare, very good chance that the draft plays out in some combo of:

1 Chet
2 Jabari
3 Paulo
4 Ivey
5 Keegan
6 AJ Griffin
7 Mathurin

I know some love Jonny Davis cause people seem to fall in love with slashing high volume college guards that dont pass a lot and are missing a jump shot, but I dont particularly love the BPA's in that scenario. At least not for our team

Now, if Sharpe declares, that all but guarantees one of Sharpe/Mathurin/Griffin will be there

There will probably be another player or 2 that works their way up into the conversation during the combine. There always is. However, if we're picking at the top of the next tier, it might not be a bad spot for trading back.

I know people are generally against this after 2019, but this is 8, not 4. If 8 vs. 14 gets you the same level of player, why not do a Graham for Huerter swap? You upgrade one of your weaker spots on the roster with a better fit and can still draft a future rotation worthy player.

I'm not 100% opposed, but, this draft really lacks the depth of last year's(though I'm sure some gems will be had like there always are), and there is no guarantee we ever pick top 10 again in the Zion/Bi era(even if the Lakers collapse looks like infinite green pastures today) so I hope we don't trade back.

If we must, unless the perfect trade scenario arises, just take the best of the next tier and reach if you have to to make sure you get your guy

Either way though, discussing which way to go with a top 10 pick without tanking is a good problem to be discussing

This wouldn't be a bad deal, then take someone like Agbaji at 14. Imo our biggest downfall this year has still been 3 point shooting, adding Huerter and Agbaji would give 2 more threats.

The thing is, I dont really see that as a viable option at this point. Not opposed to the idea of floating the pick out there, but we have tax concerns so have to be very careful going forward.

Atlanta is win-now, Huerter is their starter.

It's hard to envision why they would want to trade a quality starter for a mediocre back up and move up in the draft unless it's for a player that they envision replacing Huerter's role, which, in that scenario, I'd rather just take that player on a rookie scale contract than take on Huerter's 15 million to play off the bench.

Yeah, I don't know why Atlanta would do it unless they have another deal lined up flipping Graham, but just saying it wouldn't be bad.

The tax line was raised a little bit for next season already, and I'm pretty sure we could fit the extra 2-3 million under our tax line.

This is more or less what I was thinking. Pretty sure we will end up with Sharpe or Mathurin if no one jumps us. At 7, we woukd be guaranteed one of the two for sure or have our pick between them. Plus the extra 5-6% odds help.

No, but it would have been a silver lining of an outcome if we did lose

Zion, BI, CJ, Val, and Hayes are about to be an expensive core. I think you want to hold onto the rookie, so you have some cheap players.

Yeah, it can't go unsaid how huge it could be if you land someone like Sharpe and he lives up to even 75% of the hype, and you have him for 4 years with an average salary of 5 million.

That is franchise altering ROI for a team poised to be playing the tax game going forward.
