re: Shams says Pelicans are “aggressively pursuing” a top 2-3 pick for Scoot

Possibly, but it’s a bit of a leap to assume that not only will the player be a no doubt star, but he’ll be good immediately. There are numerous examples of no-doubt picks that didn’t pan out, but the vast majority who do pan out, take 3 years

Its tough to trade without getting a franchise type guy back. Imagine telling your fanbase- hey we just gave up the number two pick (scoot- franchise type guy himself) for more picks and swaps. In all honesty, teams pray to be in the position Charlotte is in right now. I think its dumb they’re even entertaining offers unless your looking for a franchise type guy to pair with Lamelo.

Still seems kinda steep to me. If I'm giving up 3 firsts, I'm keeping Trey Murphy.
seems very steep considering what we got back for trading away #4 not too long ago. I'd gladly give up the 3 1sts, and maybe Dyson as well, but that seems steep as well, but i'd do it. Adding Trey would be a quick no go.
I'm not sure why the Hornets would be interested in doing that though. They need to get better quickly or they are going to lose LaMelo.

The more I think about this it’s probably smoke and mirrors for certain reasons. Maybe like “ hey Zion if you don’t start acting like a professional then we will trade your arse to Charlotte”. We can trade a lot to Charlotte but I still don’t think they would take anything without BI or Zion. Unless they really want all of our warchest and young guys

This is why there’s no way scoot makes it to the Blazers. Can you imagine taking Brandon Miller over Trey, Dyson and three firsts or whatever?

I agree but lot of it also depends on the roster of the team. Unlike most lottery teams we’re basically built to contend.

But no one is going to give up a package like that to move to #2.

Teams fall in love with the potential of what players can be. It wouldn’t surprise me if a team did do that.

They really like Scoot. I dont blame them. We’re talking about franchise guys but lets be honest- Zion doesn’t stay healthy. BI has health issues but even when healthy isn’t a true franchise guy. There is opportunity to get a potential franchise guy in Scoot they believe potentially could be better- probably why pelicans are interested.

quote:What does CJ know about scouting players? I am sure there were several players he told Portland he thought could be special. I highly doubt Griffin is relying on CJ over his scouting department. MM comes up with some crap.
Source: One guy driving these talks that nobody has mentioned -- CJ McCollum. He thinks Scoot is special, special and has told the FO as much

If you were a Charlotte fan, wouldn't the prospect of Zion on the same court as Melo, healthy, excite the crap out of you?

Yeah, it's not like Griff would take a player recommendation and run with it even against the preferences of the rest of the front office.

You cant guarantee any guy not getting hurt. But the fact is BI and Zion have issues missing time in the NBA getting hurt and take a while to recover especially Zion. We know that for a fact. They cant stay healthy. Scoot hasnt played in NBA so we dont know yet.

quote:Exactly, so kinda crazy to say the reason you want him is because a 22 year old Zion gets hurt. A smallish guard is not guaranteed to not get hurt.

Who said hes relying on him over his scouting department? He just said hes part of the bandwagon to get Scoot. You dont need a scouting department to tell you Scoot is special, anybody who watches basketball can you tell that. The guy has been a top prospect for a while.

I want him cause hes a dynamic franchise guard not only because Zion constantly gets hurt. But that is one of the considerations because Zion constantly getting hurt is a fact. Several smallish guards in the nba have had success on the court- dame, steph, trae and ja( on court- keep that in mind). So if you ask I rather bet my franchise on a smallish athletic freakish guard with a 6-9 wingspan who most consider a franchise guard over a freakish PF who in 4 years in NBA has shown he cant control his weight and cant stay healthy, yes I would bet on Scoot.
