RIP Cox Sports TV - going dark 12 AM on 11/1

I posted this on tOT... but it deserves to be here too as its original reason of being started was the New Orleans Hornets
Cox Sports TV (CST) took to the air for the first time on the day of the 1st New Orleans Hornets regular season game after the team moved from Charlotte to NOLA.
For the next almost decade its main purpose of existence was to be the TV home of the Hornets, though it had other Saints and LSU programming
Perhaps its 2nd biggest source of content was getting the rights to Baton Rouge Regionals in the NCAA Baseball Tournament... with other sports like the New Orleans VooDoo, New Orleans Zephyrs/Baby Cakes as well as high school sports also in there.
The station lost its main reason of existing in the early 2010s after Tom Benson bought the Hornets and moved the broadcast right of New Orleans' NBA team from CST to Fox Sports New Orleans (now Bally's Sports New Orleans) and seemed to be on borrowed time since then
ESPN took over the rights to all NCAA baseball regionals... and that was really it for CST.
It tried to survive with LSU pre & postgame, Arkansas pre & postgame, Saints pre & postgame, high school sports, other minor league baseball teams and outdoors shows.
But the end has come for CST.
Farewell CST... we will always have Bob Licht, Gil McGregor, & Jordy Hultberg on New Orleans Hornets basketball calls

After 19 years of being the Gulf South Sports Leader Cox Sports Television will be retired and go off the air. We will go dark at midnight on October 31, 2021.
However, many of your favorite CST programs will be moving to Cox’s local YurView channels beginning November 1st. (1/3)

It’s remarkable how much better the current broadcast is compared to yesteryear.

Ah I love our crew now, but there’s nothing like having Bob Licht yelling “BOTTOM!!!” after a big 3 or breaking down a magic CP3 play with the McGregorstrator

That’s just nostalgia. Joel Myers is so much better than Bob or Gil.

Joel is a beast. I really miss David Wesley tho.
AD is great and brings more energy, but I really liked Wesley’s more chill demeanor. Felt more like hanging out rather than Daniels yellin down your throat. Daniels has gotten way better from when he started so I’m not bitchin too hard.

They did a pretty good job covering high school sports, including sports like volleyball that might not otherwise air on TV.

This makes me sad. Getting old sucks. Lol. Nostalgia (sp?).

Wait—-we’re getting new announcers?

RIP. surprised they lasted as long as they did post Hornets. I remember when they would only get like 40 games a year. How far we’ve come.

No.
The Pels haven't been on Cox Sports TV in many years.

quote:I could not disagree more. He is a much better part of the media team when he is not calling games live. He was more like Chris Webber on the color commentary, constantly getting things wrong
I really miss David Wesley tho.
Great Hornet tho

I meant with the Bally stuff—did the other guys work for Fox Sports or it doesn’t work like that?
Posted on 10/18/21 at 11:59 am to The_Duke
They transitioned to Ballys during the season last year.
