Speak to is different from being represented by, right?

If amateur players were allowed to speak to whomever they want about entering the draft w/o being punished, there wouldn't be a need for this at all.

You serious, Clark? There is no data that shows this is even a problem. They're doing what they always do: creating dumb, retrograde rules to protect their own interests while using "protecting student-athletes" as a shield.

This is the fundamental problem of the NCAA- they won't admit that they are nothing more than a minor league for the best prospects in the world. The NBA plays a role in this too- a real minor league or academy system would be great. But I have no patience for them sticking to antiquated and phony "amateur" rules so they can keep printing $$ and keep their charade going for as long as possible.

education requirement is a bad thing.

Sure. Key word is "education." Powerful education doesn't have to be a degree. Likewise a degree doesn't signify quality education automatically.

quote:

I would take it a step further and say that I wouldn't want someone representing me without a law degree

Right. If I am thinking about going to the NBA, I want an agent advising me who has been approved by the NBAPA. I do not give a frick about the NCAA's approval.

quote:

where do you see NCAA "approved"?

The OP and information about this rule. 3 requirements: college degree, NBAPA certification, NCAA approved. Why create extra barriers to access? If an agent is good enough for NBAPA, then they have the equivalent of the law degree you mentioned above
