While reading most of the posts on here, the love for Griffin and drafts has been a little worn out.

He became a general manager for the first time in Cleveland in 2014.

He drafted Wiggins at #1 which by the position and hype for Wiggins was a major bust. He did trade him to Minny but that was about it.

He only made three draft picks in his time as GM. 3. None turned out great. That is not a solid track record to be finding the guy amazing.

How often do picks 28-30 end up being “great”?

He also didn’t have Langdon as a GM.

How dare you talk about our king in this manner

Trajan Langdon has built his reputation on scouting and player evaluation. It won’t just be Griffin making decisions.

He was also the driving force behind them picking Anthony Bennett.

I also have some trepidation regarding his past drafts, but I also think so far he's really said all of the right things, done all of the right things, and most importanlty, hired the right people.

Every GM is going to have busts. I do like people like Langdon etc to make MOSTLY right decisions. Many won't work out. This isn't an exact science.

There was also this one time (not sure if you heard) where he traded Anthony Davis for two former number 2 overall picks, a solid young role player, and about 7 years worth of Lakers draft control. That seems like a decent move.

Pretty sure he has admitted several times that that wasn't the plan at that the time.

They had NO idea that Lebron was coming back to Cleveland and it completely changed their plan.

What's wrong with the Wiggins pick? who out of that draft would you take before him at that time?

Every team would've taken Wiggins if they had the first pick in that draft.

Griffin had input in drafting Marion and Amare in PHX

I'd say those guys were pretty good

I mean the only player you could argue for in hindsight is Embid but at the time there's no way I'm taking him #1 with those injury concerns. Philly took a gamble at 3 cause they had no other choice.

Stupid thread

Ah Wiggins and the 2014 NBA draft. I remember doing in depth scouting reports for that class. I was right on about Wiggins, his career has gone exactly as expected.

Do we still want K.J. McDaniels?

His maneuvering with draft assets was really brilliant to form that champiosnhip team. Fans completely underrate the technical and peripheral moves he made to bring 3 Finals appearances and a championship to Cleveland.

If you look at the shite Pelinka and Buss are trying to learn on the fly, Griffin has been a master. His knowledge of timing and sequence for trades as well as the value of contracts is top notch.

Mid season, Embiid was ranked #1 in that class. Before the season, it was looked as the tank for Wiggins draft.
