So let me get this straight, seems everyone got first round picks for their rfa’s in sign and trades this year except for our Pelicans who btw had the highest paid rfa I believe this year and was apparently the most sought after since he had a contract already signed before free agency even started…..

Talk about Klutch bending Griff over. I didn’t think Presti left any for anyone else after last year….

Yeah Griff didn’t execute the Zo trade particularly well. No defending that. Very curious about the tampering investigation

Chicago only had a 22 24 or 25 1st which would be heavily protected and probably end up being a 2nd. Plus we’re loaded with draft capital for a few years. Second most picks behind okc I think.

That is the most ridiculous reason for not wanting to get a 1st. Just ridiculous!

Right because multiple rookies are leading teams to playoffs and championship

You don't have to use a pick to get value out of it. You can trade it as well.

Not saying that just u only have 15-17 spots , we have enough picks to move and gain assets

Better picks help you get better assets. The argument you're making is not a good one.

Hasn't this horse been beaten enough?

We didn't want Lonzo back, not at the money he got. It was take what you can get in in trade (2 very good bench players and a pick), or let him walk for nothing to someone with cap like NYK.

This is not even factoring in, Chicago has traded away their early 1st round picks, they will never give up a 26-28 1st for Lonzo.

We gave up a lottery protected 1st for Graham so Charlotte wouldn't match the deal we gave, and it's essentially no different than giving up a lottery protected 1st for him at last year's deadline, which every single poster on this board would have been happy with.

The only other s&t that recieved a 1st was Chicago for Lauri, who gets it from Cleveland, who pretty much has shown this offseason they have no fricking idea what they're doing.

Except for the first Chicago sent to San Antonio and last years first round pick the heat sent to the raptors for Lowry. Technically not a first but basically a frp value since he was a rookie…..

We got scraps, I’d rather Griff played hardball and make Chicago hold up their cap for three days instead of getting a 2nd and Sato who will not be in the team next year. They didn’t want Lauri but still managed to get a first out of it.

You said s&t but either way when every rfa that got traded this off-season netted a first except for you know the perceived best one of the bunch lol…..it’s a bad look

None of these things should remotely be a reason to not get a 1st round pick back.

You think Chicago wouldn't have made the offer to Zo if we demanded a 1st?

No biggie for us, we just keep shopping him for the right team that would offer it.

The Pels/Lonzo divorce began in September of 2020 when he signed with Klutch. It was pretty widely known that the Pels weren't going to match. They had no leverage thanks to Rich Paul poisoning the well for us. Lonzo should have been traded last offseason, but the Bubble probably killed his value.

I will say that I understand not killing last season with a Lonzo trade at the deadline. If Zion wasn't happy with the team failing while it tried, he'd probably be even more pissed if the team gave up on the season. The answer has always been to see the writing on the wall and trade Lonzo much earlier. If Griff is not a good negotiator then he's got to be proactive and make sure he's more moves ahead and has leverage.
