re: PSA: You Will Hear A Lot of Narratives in the Next 3 Weeks Until the Draft
It was from Andrew Lopez of the Times-Picayune in New Orleans.

Lopez probably read it on twitter.

Most of these narratives will be media-driven clickbait.

I doubt this is anything new, reports of that came out in January.

I think Ball is a great fit for a Gentry (and Zion) team, regardless of the fit with Jrue.

rondo is a far better shooter and finisher than Lonzo Ball
and rondo did not play the minutes you would need ball to play

How? Zion, Jrue, and Ball aren't great shooters.

Zion will thrive in transition, Lonzo is one of the best transition passers in the league. He’s also a good defender. I said regardless of his fit with Jrue, but even there Lonzo is a lead ball handler, which most feel like Jrue pairs with best. I also think he’ll be at least a league average 3 point shooter this season. They would be a top 5 defensive backcourt.

Jrue is not a good 3 pt shooter. He’s a slasher more than a spot up shooter. Ball would be a terrible fit with Zion. Ball can’t shoot which is what we need in a PG in the starting lineup. I can’t believe this is even a discussion. Ball is overrated.

We have no clue what the starting lineup is even going to be next season, to say Lonzo doesn’t fit is stupid. The only player that is guaranteed to be on the roster next season is Zion. Lonzo is a good defender and a great transition passer. He progressed from year 1 to year 2 in regards to his 3 point shot and is a volume shooter. Zion is going to thrive in a fast paced offense, I don’t understand how having one of the best transition passers would be a bad thing. I get it, everyone hates this dude’s dad. I do too, but to act like he’s a finished product and couldn’t be a good fit in a Gentry offense is naive.

Ball is not good. He’s a volume shooter but a bad shooter. I think you’re getting caught up in the LA and his college hype. To me, he’s not a good fit next to Jrue because you need a ball handling PG (which he is) but more of a spot up 3pt shooter (who shoots almost 40% or better from 3 not the FT line) than a guy that penetrates. That’s why I’m all on the Brogdon train.

I'm not sure why everyone is getting caught up in fit (in regards to the backcourt with Jrue). We aren't even sure that Jrue will be on the team this season, and fit is more of a concern when you're trying to be good. From the sound of Langdon, it doesn't necessarily sound like the team is attempting to be good yet, just trying to establish a culture in the locker room and probably develop Zion + other young players. Lonzo could be one of those young players to develop, he increased his 3 pt percentage by 3 points from year 1 to year 2. It's not outlandish to think that he could continue that and be an average 3 pt shooter this season. My main concern with him is health, not shooting.

ETA: you think I'm getting caught up in the LA/College hype, and I think you're getting caught up in the Lakers/LaVar hate.

Ok, but you are replacing two stretch bigs that played in those lineups most of the time(and a third three-point shooter) with a guy in Zion who can't stretch the floor reliably and without a doubt someone less dynamic and versatile than AD. Who, if we are projecting a Lakers trade, Jrue, Zion, and Lonzo are presumably playing with Ingram, another non-three-point shooter.

Rondo and Jrue worked because you had spacers everywhere else. And even then people are forgetting regular season Rondo. Who would often be unable to finish games or play long stretches against a lot of lineups.

I’m sure Jrue will be on this team. For leadership purposes if anything. Now, that you mention it I am caught up on the Lakers and Ball hate. I just don’t believe he will be anything more than a role player. I think we’re going to have to agree to disagree on that one.

I see a lot of similarities with Ball and Rubio. Tall, long, great passer, good defender, but questionable shooter and a bit fragile. Opinions on both vary greatly around the league. Some love them, some hate them. Rubio has developed into a nice starter and a lot of people would love him on our team. But he is still limited..

Rubio doesn’t have injury issues or off the court issues.

Lot of the baggage with him is directly centered on the Wolves, such as them drafting him and two other points the same night and then Love not getting a five year deal because Kahn was saving that for Rubio, which ended up causing Love’s eventual trade to the Cavs.

Rubio missed over 120 games his first 4 seasons. He hasn't missed much the last 4, but there was a time Rubio was considered injury prone.

The off the court stuff is all about perspective. Rubio was pretty decisive as a young star from Europe. The debate over him taking over the team fractured the team to an extent. Which is just as bad as anything Ball has ever done.

My comp was more as just players though and how they project professionally..

re: PSA: You Will Hear A Lot of Narratives in the Next 3 Weeks Until the Draft
The debate was mainly due to management taking him and intending to hand the keys over to him when he arrived, not anything he personally did.

Considering that the GM was David Kahn and he made a number of other dumbass moves, I wouldn’t put it on Rubio.

He drafted three points that night and traded arguably the best of those three, Ty Lawson, to Denver. While missing out on Jrue and Steph Curry, both of which ended up being better points / combo guards than any of the three guys they drafted.

Management being idiots is beyond his control. Unlike, say, letting your loudmouth a-hole father run your career and cause problems such as trying to lean on the team to take your less talented brothers.

What? So Rubio being a bit arrogant and highly publicized is as bad as if his dad dictating how a team operates, trying to get a coach fired and bringing a complete circus to his son's team? Really?
