Yes, as I’ve already said, I’m a healthcare worker. I wear a mask to protect others. Does that offend you in some way?

why do you think this will be done in a year based on your preferred policies?

This also isn’t just about capacity, it is about stamping out the virus, stamping out it’s spread from harming Covid free parts of the hospital system so you can return to more normalcy. You know, helping people not die and not get infected.

so...shutting down society for a few years

Define flattened? Becuase I dont think you even understand what flattening the curve is.

It’s a process meant to, amongst other things, to prevent runaway and uncontrollable infections and allow healthcare systems and governments to put in place enough capacity and testing/tracing to minimize spread, no, we as a country have not flattened the curve everywhere.

you're right. we didn't flatten the curve. we crushed the curve

This is everything wrong with the world. Incapable of independent thought or acknowledging actual facts. We just have to virtue signal at all times.

It is an actual fact that 116,000 people have died WITH Covid 19 not necessarily from it. There are many many many reports of people being classified and included in that list of people that had Covid at the time of their deaths, but most likely did not actually die FROM Covid.

The mortality rate has plummeted as we learn more about the disease.

Look, I personally had two family members pass with it, both in their 90s, both got it in the same nursing home. They were already sickly but Covid was the death knell. I’m aware of the seriousness of the virus to those at risk.

But we also have to be able to address the pure political nature, on both sides, of how both deaths and cases are being reported. It is significantly more subjective than you want to admit.

For instance, New York went and reclassified almost 10,000 deaths as “probable Covid deaths” and included it in their number. Do you realize how totally subjective and possibly misleading that number is?

The actual reality is that while this virus IS serious for the elderly and immune-compromised, 116,000 Americans have NOT died FROM Covid.

What’s that little thing happening there on the right side of your graph?

a return to more normalcy and the corresponding, expected, increase in cases

but that's irrelevant considering this is all in response to his original comment:

Many places, like Florida, never flattened their curve

Yea, that was a rather amazing deflection on his part, he wanted no part of that post, it boxed him, and he didn't know what to do with it.

He actually posted a similar graph to prove we didn't flatten the curve, and the graph clearly showed that we flattened the curve.

An increase in cases is to be expected and is perfectly fine if there is not an increase in hospitalizations that overwhelms the system, and a sharp increase in deaths directly attributed to the virus.

That's what all of the precautions are about.

100%

I can re-post my "flatten the curve" MS Paint for the 100th time if necessary

and yes, even today, like 3 areas are experiencing an acute issue of ICU/critical care capacity

and no, nobody is saying precautions shouldn't be taken in those areas

100%

It's pretty funny, just knowing your audience. On the PT board, I'm a huge SJW, like you stated.

I have just as many posts as I have here on another, much much smaller message board that started in 2003 as an NCAA PS3 football league. We're a community of probably 30 right now, and there's a few pretty far left leaning dudes that mostly dominate any political commentary. On that board I'm considered a far right loon.

Like I said, it's just knowing your audience. The truth is usually in the middle of both extremes, and that couldn't be more true here, I'm right in the middle, but the far right audience thinks I'm an SJW and the far left audience think I'm one of those crazy conservative kooks. It's pretty funny.

re: Players’ union expects no fans at NBA games during 2020-21 season
How many people do you think died in the last three months from cancers, heart problems, strokes, liver or kidney issues, that could have been prevented if we banned things like alcohol, red meat, tobacco, tanning beds, and we mandated everyone exercise 30 min a day?

How many people could we save if we lowered all speed limits to 30 mph?

Think of how absurd that seems when put in the context of things already in society. But bc covid is new all of the sudden every single measure possible has to be ordered to prevent the slightest risk of death. Treat it the same way you treat any other slightly risky but ultimately probably fine danger.
