I agree with you on the point that it's not always fair, but, this situation is not the same as others when a top 20-25 player gets traded. This is other teams coming to us, not a star player asking out. That makes a huge difference. Teams are not only competing with each other, but also against us in that it has to be a better deal than us keeping him. Fans don't put proper value on a players defensive abilities. Players and good front offices do. No way should we come out of this trade complaining. I don't think we're gonna fleece anyone, but I feel like we're gonna think we won the long game on this deal.

i've been saying that for some time. Really would love to get him, but i seriously doubt they move him.
The Magic have a plethora of big men, and they need to get rid of some.
Vucevic 3 years left at $26M/yr
Gordon 2 years left at $18M/yr
Isaac 1 year left on rookie deal
Mo Bamba 1 year left on rookie deal
Khem Birch 1 year left at $3.8M (he actually played really well for them last year)
They are going to have to decide what they want to do with Isaac, which i would assume would be to resign him, and then Bamba, which i have no idea what they are going to do with him, but i doubt they want to pay him big money, and i douct they want to let go of him b/c he showed a lot of promise last year. The Magic just have to many big men to spread minutes out, so Bamba hasn't gotten that chance to play big minutes yet, and he had some injury issues his first year in the league and missed some summer league play, but i still think they are very high on the former #6 pick.
quote:
Shot-blocking, his strongest asset as a prospect entering the NBA, continued to earn him minutes in the deep Magic frontcourt rotation. The numbers would say Bamba was the league’s best shot-blocker this season — he averaged 3.5 blocks per 36 minutes. According to Basketball Index and data from Second Spectrum, opponents shot 14.6-percent worse at the rim when Bamba was defending it.
quote:
Pairing Mohamed Bamba with Magic Head Coach Steve Clifford, known for reverence for the defensive side of the ball, portended well for Bamba in his development. And the improvement showed year over year. During his sophomore season, Bamba’s team defensive mistakes were fewer and far between.
He was not caught in “no man’s land” as often, a frequent occurrence during his injury-shortened rookie season.
Bamba also showed improved help-side defense in his rotations and a dedicated propensity to keeping his arms “high and wide.” With a 7-foot 10-inch wingspan, Bamba’s length can plug holes in the Magic perimeter defense.
Maybe Bamba is a guy we should look at targeting this year?

what's the difference between #3 and #6? Would you do a trade with Chicago for Jrue and get basically nothing back but #6?
Atlanta is pick 6, and I've already said I would trade Jrue for the 6th pick straight up.

Isaac didn't have some long term injury. He tore his ACL. that's a routine surgery and recovery these days, especially when you're young.
He's a very similar player to Bam, and had a breakout season this year even though he's sharing so much playing time with others in Orlando.
I think he's the perfect 5 to play with Zion, and i'd jump all over a trade for him right now if his value is lower b/c of the injury.

I would send Orlando a lottery protected 1st that turns into 2nds, but I wouldn't do much of any value for him, not to mention his history of lower extremity injuries, which is not good for big men.

I just have the feeling that when all is said and done, Jrue is on the roster on opening night.

No matter what the Pels say, I'm willing to bet it won't be for lack of trying.
There is too much smoke about them wanting to move up in this draft, they are actively trying to use Jrue to do so imo.
It may not happen but I believe they are doing their damndest.

looks like a bunch of ankle sprains. Big whoop, although he has missed a good bit of time through 3 years.
Like i said, if his trade value is down, and the Magic are willing to part with him, then yes, i'd be perfectly fine with having him sit out a good part of this year and still giving him an extension right now. You can probably get him for cheap b/c he probably would love to secure his next contract asap. Give him a 3 year extension at $45M, make the last year a PO so if he comes back strong he can get his next contract sooner.
I'd give up 13 and cleveland 2nds to acquire him, but i'd hope our trade with Jrue nets us a top 10 pick and a player.
I'm ok with not being a playoff team next year, as long as we get better and still are close to .500, and i think we can do that even without Jrue and Isaac and more young players. I still say Hart can give us a lot of what Jrue gives us.

If we can get Zo to yield us Issac with it looking like Jrue to Atlanta. The Magic could use a Pg and Zo would turn a large contract incoming with a log jam of big men in to a young PG the Magic could use.

On the Russillo pod today he mentioned that the Pels were interested in Chris Paul, but Paul wanted to play with Jrue if he was coming here, and there's no way that could happen (because of contracts).
On a non Pels note, he mentioned that several teams were interested in Paul but it doesn't appear that any of them would really work out, except for possibly Phoenix.
He's pretty close to someone close to Paul (seems like he usually has info there), so I think what he's saying makes sense, not that we didn't already have the Phoenix info, but it's interesting to know about all the teams that reached out about him.

Can get him here by making it multi team. Would need to move Zo, NAW, Hayes, Miller

Yeah, I don't think that we would trade 3 young prospects for 2 years of Paul.

If that’s all it took to get CP3 I’d do that in a heartbeat.

We have other ways of making the salary, namely a S&T of Favors and Moore.

Russillo also echoed Stephen A Smith saying Paul does not want to play for the Lakers. Stephen A even got a text during the CP3 segment, saying he was wrong, but doubled down basically saying his info is coming directly from Paul. I like that Paul won't go to the Lakers, i just wonder what the beef is. Neither guy seems to want to say whats up.
