There are other guys on the list. The first list I tweeted out was Redden, Raja, and Langdon. If they can't get one of their main targets they will her multiple assistants

As I said up front, if it was a slam dunk, it would have been done a while ago. Was first call Griffin made.

Same will go for Phoenix trainer and U'Ren, so I can tell you guys Griffin are after but those guys still have a choice.
Sure, I understand. I did not mean to insinuate that you said it was a slam dunk. My personal feel, just from the little I know/read, was that we had a good shot based on the relationships.

It wasn't directed at you. I mentioned Redden before anyone but also said his ex roommate and my best friend told me he would bet against Redden joining us

The typical haters came out and said this was me hedging. So, either way I was right. Maybe now they will understand that while I have knowledge, nothing is definite in this field since so many people have choices. It doesn't matter if I know what the Pels want to do, because it's not like they can just will the world to do as they wish.

I can tell you all they will go after U'Ren but that doesn't mean U'Ren will join us. But when I don't give a definite declaration about the future then I am "hedging"

Dang. Not that I really care if we get Redden or not considering I know nothing about him, but I wish he would’ve accepted the job just because with the news of Griffin going after the Suns medical guy we had momentum.

We will get multiple guys the level of what Redden was just a few years ago. Create the next Redden and get two guys for the price of what we offered Redden.

There are hundreds of guys around the league with all the same level of intelligence. The important thing is that we now have a budget to go get bodies in that office.

They are going for it, that’s all that matters to me. Finally some commitment to making this organization respectable.

Exactly - no offense, but 99% of the people on this board had no idea who Trent Redden was two months ago. And in all likelihood, they won't know the guy who does take that job.

The exciting part is he has the budget to go get people in multiple departments and actually have a team around him.

I don't get how fans follow assistants in front offices around like actual players. I had no idea who Griffin was.

He was GM for a high profile franchise, & fixture on NBATV, media since then.

Yes, fans know some FO people's names but my pet peeves is that they seem to have STRONG opinions based purely on their results. Which often are case specific, have a lot of luck involved or lack there of, etc.

Take Griffin - that was one of the most rare and specific situations in NBA history. He has a top 3 player all time in his prime who is only signing 1+1 so he has all the leverage. Also, basically has his own current NBA clients that his best friend is an agent for so now you gotta pay them too, etc.

But people will say, "I'm worried about him here, look at that contract he gave JR Snith. Or Tristen"

As if this situation is anything like that one. And to be honest, fans do the same thing in their evaluation of coaches even though we have seen time and time again that the same exact guy can be both a failure or a success depending on the situation. See Mike D'Antoni for example.

Honestly, I prefer when fans don't know the guys as opposed to pretending they do because they can Google results

I think fans are more excited that they hired someone they HAVE heard of in this case (griffin). It was and is a big deal that they got him regardless of future results

nobody knew who the frick Dell Demps was except a few who knew he worked for the spurs. Couple that with the fact he was basically a mute the whole time he was here and fans just want somebody that will communicate with them

I’ll get hype for whoever else he hires. This organization needs new people whoever they are

a good example of how to do it differently is Connelly
he was a no name to most fans but since he’s been in Denver he regularly gives interviews and goes on the record with the local and national press. It helps that his team is developing but he has no problem commenting on Malone and/or his players

you have to have that to have an engaged fan base. We need to know that there’s a plan and there’s smart people minding the store

But there is always a plan. No GM has ever not had one. And I have not watched Connolly interviews but there is no way he is fully transparent. Whatever his comments are, I'd bet my life they are much different (stronger, more nuanced, etc) when he actually talks to his head people behind the scenes.

Every GM is smart. I have conversed with you guys and I have had the benefit of talking to Dell and he is smarter than all of us, me included. And I am sure that is the case for almost everyone in the league. Some GMs have luck, some don't. Some are in great situations, some aren't. And yes, some are a little smarter than others. But its not close to as big of a gap as the results would seem to indicate.

it doesn’t matter that dell was smarter than me...he wasn’t the face of the franchise.
i need to be communicated with if you want me fully engaged

I have no idea why he stayed behind the curtain but it was to his detriment. I would love to be able to rally behind the leader but I can’t if the leader won’t ask me to

hopefully that makes sense

I loathe Lebron so I dont watch unless it's the playoffs or they are playing the Pels, I dont really watch NBATV because I've been streaming games online since 2010. I do know more about teams like the Falcons though.

If the results would have been different, he would have been loved and fans would have thought the shroud of mystery was brilliant. RC Buford is never "out there" and Spurs silence is one of the most praised parts of their organization.

Human beings work backwards. They see results and draw conclusions based on the process from that, without truly knowing the process. It is what it is, I get it. When you get little to no info, you have to take nuggets and create the information with as best of an educated guess as possible. I have no connections with the Raiders and I do it with them, and they are even more baffling, so I get it
