What we need for the next two years is someone who help develop these young players. We need someone to try to fix Lonzo's free-throw shooting. We need someone to help Zion learn exactly when to leave his man and help defensively. If we're going to be a championship team eventually, these guys need to be developed into championship players, and Gentry seems like a great choice to do that.

And, yeah, Gentry's offensive system is going to be great for the Zion & Zo Show -- a guaranteed SportsCenter Top Ten moment every game. And that's good for Zion's image and future endorsement deals, too.

It pays to be friends with the GM & have an owner that doesn’t know any better

That’s fine. You don’t want to coach on the one-year contract. Gentry has hired quality assistants, which says a lot. Coaching hasn’t been the problem. The problem was a flawed roster.

This is shaping up to be a perfect storm for the Pels to be one of the most exciting teams in the league next year!

That’s like someone thinking Hassan Whiteside is a good player.

I’ve been accused, publicly of being an “apologist” and told to stfu. Here’s my take:
I’m unhappy with losing, and Gentry has to accept his fair share of the blame, but before the season started, I was prepared to lose games until this new roster had a chance to mesh and young guys gained more experience. I still think we’ll see results by, or just after, the ASB.

Results? Anticipation of results would necessitate an upward trend in the team's performance. In fact, it's going in the opposite direction.

I think Gentry is a below-average coach in the NBA. I hope and expect us to do better next year. But Gentry has cost us, at most, maybe a game or two -- what has killed us (after the Zion injury) has been the injuries (especially the fact that Derrick Favors has played two healthy games for us) and the horrifically awful play of Lonzo Ball.

As Hardwood Paroxysm tweeted yesterday:

Jrue + Ingram
With Lonzo Ball on the floor, net rating = -15.5
Without Lonzo on the floor, net rating = 0.9

People post Lonzo's stats and say that he's not that bad, and they don't account for how much worse he makes his teammates, on both ends of the floor.

I'm not arguing "for" Gentry. I'm just saying that he isn't the main problem and replacing him won't fix it.

Who decided despite all evidence to keep pushing that combination of Jrue and Lonzo though?

Lonzo should have stayed coming off the bench. Having his minutes determined by how he is playing that night. Gentry often insists on maintaining these poor rotations and lineups and that is a major part of coaching in the nba.

Gentry not knowing how to out coach or knowing how to be diverse in his offense is just 2 reasons why he is god awful
