Exactly what I was thinking. They get to push the season back over 3 weeks to try and buy some time, doing the draft and FA early November.

Still get to keep their traditional Christmas games.

Since this is an offseason discussion, can we talk about who we want to sign in FA, assuming we don't do to much trading this offseason?

From what i see, we should have a good bit of cap space to spend, as well as the Bi Annual.
We have $76.1M in salaries, not including Miller. BI's $9.2M hold and a $3.8M incomplete roster hold.
That puts us at $88M. Not sure what the cap will be, but i doubt it'll be $115M like originally projected. I would think we will at least have $20M to spend, and the BIA is about 2/$7M.

Would you give 4/$80 to Otto Porter or Evan Fournier if they opted out? I do'nt think they are worth that.
That's basically what Brogdon got 4/$85, and i'd expect VanVleet to get that too.

I think the guys i'd most like to target are Olynyk, Meyers Leonard, Baynes and Jerami Grant if he opts out, Joe Harris and Bertans. WOuld be nice if we could get two of those, big man and a shooter, but that might be wishful thinking. Not sure if Leonard/Olynyk and Harris would want more, but if we could do a 2/$20M for each of them that would work.

Could then try to get DJ Augustin with the BIA.

If we could start next season like this i'd be happy, assuming no trades.

Lonzo/NAW/DJ
Jrue/Hart/Redick
BI/Harris
Zion/Melli
Olynyk/Hayes/Okafor
#13, 2nd rounder

My understanding from other posters was that we will not have anywhere close to that to spend and we would be operating as a above the cap team using the MLE and so on. Could be wrong. I haven’t looked at the numbers at all.

well i just showed you our numbers.
Unless we sign Ingram first, which would be stupid, we'll have a good bit of cap space.
That also assumes we aren't resigning Favors.
Frank and Okafor's cap holds are barely anything.
There's no reason we wouldn't have at least $20m in cap space.

Spotrac is wrong on the cap hold, it is around 20 million (i think BBall Reference has the correct number)

If the cap is indeed 115 million (doubtful), we would end up with 9-12 million to spend if we renounce everyone but BI.

My main target in FA is Van Vleet (would have to be a sign and trade).

Yeah I think his cap hold has to be higher.

Ok i got it as to why Spotrac has 9 million.

His qualifying offer is 9.4 million, but his cap hold is 21.7 million.

Yeah the $21m is correct b/c it’s 300% of your salary, which is around $7m.

I think maybe if we make him get offers then the $9M would be the hold, which would be stupid.

No his hold is 21 regardless. The only way his cap hit drops to the 9 million is if we decide to only tender him his 1 year qualifying offer, which would never happen because then we are basically telling him we don't think he's worth a max deal.

I'd like Montrezl Harrell or Christian Wood, both can be had for a solid price.

Does a delay to the start of the NBA season have any effect on Olympic basketball y’all think?

Heard on NBA Radio this morning that Kenny Smith may be getting a look for the Kings GM position and IF that happens, there's a possibility he brings in Mark Jackson as his head coach.

...I can't think of a more promising position than to be drafting one spot behind this duo.

IF that is true, and happens, Kings have to be the dumbest organization in all of sports.

If Dumars stays on in a role, that would mean Dumars, Smith and Jackson. Wow, what a trifecta!
