If he's on the end of your bench at a league minimum type of thing that's not the worst deal in the world. You need guys that have experience and that you are familiar with when you are trying to totally change and rebuild a culture.

He looks like the love child of Tim Duncan and Tony Parker.

I’ve seen both Jared Dudley and Channing Frye commenting on Pels news lately.

Possibly coincidence. But my speculation is that both are “Griffin guys” and either just love Griff or were asked to throw out a tweet here and there about the Pels

LOL at the guys calling Dudley and end of the bench guy...he would literally be the best SF we have had in 10 years in his current state. That is not saying anything much, but if we signed him, he is instantly the starter.

Dudley is nearing the end of his career. He's going to be 34 years old and was playing 20 minutes a game for the nets and averaging less than 5 points. He can still play but he'd HOPEFULLY more just a vet presence that can give you a few quality minutes a game.

This is the complex the Hawks opened a couple years ago -

LINK

90k sq ft Hawks vs 50k sq ft Pelicans.

I've toured the Ochsner sports center.

Our practice area is about the same - our locker area is nice....

But our Training, Weights, Medical Areas are probably smallest in the league. In fact, ive heard Pels have to go across the street to the Saints for most medical stuff.

See that giant Jacuzzi and all those huge Tv's - that fancy dining room. Players notice that kind of stuff when they have to choose where to play. Alabama has better training facilities for their college players. Also - seems odd my gym has a pool and neither Pels or Saints have one.

Also - sounds like Pels are hiring and they will need office space. There is that parking area in the back - i would expand the facility that way.

Across the street? They are all on the same campus.

I believe this is where almost all the improvements will be.

I worded that wrong. I didn't mean to say it was top tier but is in the upper half.

And comparing it to what Atlanta just did is not fair. Obviously what they have, what Boston and the Lakers have are state of the art.

But then there are teams like the Rockets, who have a outdated facility.
I seriously doubt what the Pels have is the smallest in the league.

This will bring total cost of the Pels facility to 20 Mil. Obviously not the 50 mil Atlanta spent.

doesn't seem like there's much to squeeze out jared dudley the player.

I think he would be more of a culture/locker room guy. The Pels aren’t trying to win a championship in 2020. They are trying to establish a new culture for the organization.

The facility was 15 mil. Adding another 5 mil to it is a big deal.

They are investing a lot. But the Zion effect is real. The blender will have people in the stadium. Jersey sales will be huge, bandwagon fans incoming.

I hear as a precaution they are building a gynecological wing in case AD decides to stay.

I do wonder if they would have invested this much this soon had they not gotten Zion or maybe they knew along they were so it doesn’t matter.

Yeah. I mean, how much did they take in for the 2000 season tickets (and the one suite) that they sold the night of the draft? And how many more tickets have been sold since then? Next year, they'll raise prices and make even more.

And the TV deal with FoxSports will be up fairly soon, right? I can't find a final terms of the deal, but I think that it was done in 2012 for ten years, so the negotiations for the renewal should be happening fairly soon, so Zion couldn't be happening at a better time.

I'm sure Zion helped but no doubt these facility upgrades were part of Griffin's "outrageous demands" As Andynola pointed out, players notice these kind of things. You want players to think you're a first class organization from top to bottom.

As philanthropic as Tom Benson was, he was a tight wad and squeezed every penny in instances like this. That is why he grew so many successful businesses.

Cause no way would he pour $5mil in a building that was only a few years old in Gayle’s case, it’s always easier to spend someone else’s money. Glad she sees that something like this is fit

I still wish they would have put the facility downtown next to the arena where that parking lot is or somewhere closer to the city. I think the location of the 2 facilities sucks arse
