Also legacy. Who wouldn't want to be able to say after they retire that they mentored and player with a mega superstar in Zion

You know in the movies when someone is broken down in the middle of nowhere and they ask the mechanic how much it will be and the mechanic takes all of their money? I don't think it's about "Have you met Griffin's price", it's "If I just sit here in silence how much more will you offer before I say yes?"

To be fair the leaks today seem to put more pressure on other teams besides the Lakers, outside of the "Lebron might have to leave if they screw this up". But with so many teams in the bidding process all Griffin really needs to do is to keep answering the phone, especially if he's on the phone with one of the teams "Rob, that's Danny, I'm going to have to call you back."

I want to give Klutch as much benefit as I can, hoping they aren't leaking stuff just to put pressure on other teams/Griffin, but it really is the most likely outcome.
I also love how 2 of his 3 "preferred destinations" are dumpster fire organizations and leave out 2 teams that made the playoffs last year & imo have the best trade packages in BKN & BOS

AD could not give a frick less about this.

I’m not worried about that swaying away Boston. If Ainge wants someone, he’ll go for it. Especially after he sees Toronto and OKC keeping their superstars that didn’t have them as their preferred teams.

in a vacuum you're right, but one of the reasons AD's preferred destinations were talked about again today is because they want to create less leverage for teams that have better assets (BOS & BKN) and more for teams with worse assets (LAL & NYK)

It's a long shot but it's not impossible for the Pels to come out of the draft with Zion and Morant.
Would flap til it’s raw. Gayle, make it happen pretty please!

Wasn’t the point of the meeting with AD to try and ensure that he wouldn’t be a shithead and do things like this and in return we’d honestly negotiate a trade with a team he preferred? I’m so tired of this shithead and his trash representation trying to actively tank his trade value.

the problem is that klutch is privy to all discussions between Pelinka and griffin so they can’t even have a secure conversation. If griffin tells Pelinka to trade ball for something we want for example, klutch looks at that as the pels being unreasonable

Lonzos already in the rumors for teams like suns and bulls
I don't see how they could paint that as unreasonable

what I mean is that the default klutch stance is the same as in February...that the lakers offer is good enough and we should just do what they want. Any maneuvering on our side is obstructing their vision

How exactly are Brooklyn’s assets good?
Keep in mind that a sign and trade of Russell would take place after the draft, would be really complicated because of league rules, and has a chance of falling apart which means we would be left holding our dicks in hand.

You mean impossible. You can't make that S&T if they suspect it's part of a bigger trade, which it would obviously be in this instance.

They have LeVert, who is young and is decent. But they wouldn’t trade for AD until they locked down Kyrie
Posted on 6/4/19 at 6:30 pm to TeddyPadillac
I think you’d have to trade Davis to them, then they sign Irving, then offer sheet from pels to Russell, then do the sign and trade. That seems...unlikely
Especially since Russell can sign an offer sheet with any team with cap space. Pels would have to trade Davis first to even have the space for the offer sheet

What exactly are the rules on this situation? From some things I've read it is possible for the Nets to sign Russell to an extension and trade him off in a package deal to the Pelicans (and the Nets can offer him the largest contract, too). IMO, getting Russell, Allen, and picks would probably be the best haul for Davis.
A Boston trade has more potential upside depending on how the Grizzlies pick pans out but a combo of Russell and Allen are better than any combos of current players any of the teams vying for Davis can offer.

An extension is based on your current deal which I’m pretty sure is well short of the Max offers Russell is expecting, so you can’t do an extend and trade. There also are several teams interested in him which means someone would complain the moment he signed a Pels offer sheet if an AD to the Nets trade had happened a few weeks before. Russell needs to be allowed to hit the market so all teams have a fair shot at him. That’s why it can’t work, the timing just isn’t right.

This is fun. This month between the lottery and draft/free agency is probably the most excited I've been for the Pelicans. I almost want to stay in this little bubble where we have so much hope, not just with Zion but with the return in all these possible AD trades. Once the actual trade happens naturally we will find something we don't care for and we'll start wondering if we could have got more. Enjoy these few weeks

it’s complicated
1) a sign and trade has to be a separate transaction. Russell can’t be aggregated in a trade
2) he has to agree to it
3) the team receiving a player in a sign and trade is hard capped at the tax apron
4) there are plenty of other teams with cap space that can offer Russell an offer sheet
5) the deal cant be done until 7/1 (well after the draft)
6) the nets may very well want Russell back regardless
7) there has to be a reason for the signing team to do it
it’s just not likely at all
