Like I said before, I'm not advocating that we have to give him a guaranteed second year, but if he goes to the Heat and it turns out that's all it would have taken to get him here, I will be disappointed

This is not a minor thing though.

I think it was corndeaux who said it should be a Lopez deal, a 3 year deal with a team option in year 2 but picking up that team option guarantees year 2 and 3. That way you get your team option but offer enough to outbid Miami's one year deal and if Oden has anything left in the tank the 3 year deal gets you his Bird Rights to outbid anyone else when his deal is up.

That could work out really well for us

Looking at it from another perspective: I'd rather take a gamble on guy with oden's upside vs some mediocre center(which get overpaid as shite sometimes)

Where is this coming from? I'm not disputing it. I just must have missed it. Anyone have a link?

Oden was not able to complete a 'traditional' on-court workout against another player on Tuesday due to him not being cleared for contact.

Link

I know there was a date that they said he would be cleared, which just so happened to be right after the date he expects to sign.

If you ask me, they are making the date up to entice teams. "Trust us, he's going to be healthy. Just give us $3M first."

Mike Conley also said that from what he understands he won't be cleared for 5 on 5 "until August", which is conveniently after he signs with someone. Good timing for him.

I'd be fine if Brian Roberts were Chris Paul lite. That doesn't make it likely, though.

If Oden isn't cleared yet to play, he's not going to get many more offers (if any).

It's from a video interview of Marc Spears quoting Mike Conley of the Grizz who played with Oden in high school. LINK Around the 1:48 mark.

He won't, though. You're probably looking more like 5 pts, 4 rbs as an upside.

The interesting thing with Oden is it all based on health. If 5 pts and 4 rbs is his upside then that tells me his health is still terrible and will never be better, which means he is not worth any risk at all. However, if his upside is somewhere near his career marks then the risk is definitely worth the reward.

Even with his injury history, his UPSIDE is closer to his career numbers.

I think he could still be useful even if that was his ceiling. We need a matchup center and Oden could be a wealthy man's Aaron Gray. Not playing back to backs and having minutes limits shouldn't be a problem for the most part.
