Bigger euro PG, 6’5”, 180 with a nice wing span. high basketball IQ. Only 19 years old. Probably a late lottery pick. Maybe late teens. Been playing professionally since 16. Youngest player in French Pro To play in all star game.

Strengths: Smart point guard with great size for his position … Has very good size (6-4, 6-5) and length (6-8 wingspan) … High basketball I.Q … Very good feel for the game … Quick, not explosive … A better athlete than most people think… Has a quick first step… Always playing under control, he could set the pace for his team … Really mature for his age … Can play on and off the ball … Has a good hesitation dribble … Very good at changing pace and rhythm while dribbling … Plays more athletic due to his great size … Incorporates floaters in the paint well … Has good shooting mechanics which suggest that he can become a reliable shooter in the future … Has shown potential when shooting off the dribble and is a threat in pull up situations from mid-range … Good shooter in Spot Up situations when feet are set … He can be creative when he goes to the basket, having some crafty finishes and a semi-reliable floater … Great court vision, he can find the open teammate anywhere on the floor … Excellent passer … Very good in Pick and Roll situations, he can find the rolling big or to pass the perimeter for a spot up shot … Good in drive and kick situations … He has improved at reading the game … Takes what the defense gives him … Has the ability to draw fouls … Good rebounder for his position … Likes to press his opponents at full court and disturb them … Very good chasing his opponents around screens … Has really active hands on defense, which helps him make a lot of steals and deflections … Good defender in Pick and Roll situations, knows how to set his feet … Good as a help defender, always willing to cover his teammates … Has a good understanding of defensive rotations …
Weaknesses: Not an overwhelming athlete but solid and uses his size well. Just average explosiveness by NBA standards … He needs to be more physical on both ends of the floor …. At times he disappears and is just too passive for a player with his talent … His assist/turnover ratio should improve … His dribble needs some polishing, he still dribbles too high … Right hand dominant, needs to work on his left hand if he wants to become a lead guard … Has problems when his opponent pressures him at full court … His lack of elite burst limits him when he tries to create his own shot … Not always capable of taking advantage a miss-match when a big switches on him … Inconsistent shooter from the 3-point line … Has a slow shooting release, which leads to more contested shots … He settles for mid-range shots too often … Has problems finishing through contact … Hesitant at times, avoids going all the way to the basket … Not always capable of passing to the rolling big in Pick and Rol situations, prefers to pass to the perimeter, which makes him more predictable … Foul prone, he uses his hands more than he should at times and gets in foul trouble … Slightly above average lateral quickness, has problems against elite athletes … Can lose focus when defending a player off the ball, allowing backdoor cuts … Has problems defending closeouts, he runs at full speed and sets his feet incorrectly …

Maledon is a nice open court player and rangy athlete. He’s kind of long-strider but also has burst and short area quickness. His first step and ability to get downhill and find angles to the basket is impressive. He’s got touch around the rim and a nice array of one-foot floaters and runners. At 6-5 he’s got ideal combo guard size. His jumper is compact and smooth and shows promise. He needs to get stronger but his half court defense is solid and he’s a pesky on the ball defender who projects as a high level defender at the NBA level. Has a lot of untapped potential and upside.

Can he teach Lonzo?

All I keep reading is size. Not athletic . NBA guards will eat his lunch. Never heard of guy just my two cents from what I read. Thanks for input.

After reading the negatives in Bunchy's post, I was feeling pretty lukewarm on him, but then I watched his highlight reel. He is very crafty pro for a guy his age. He does need to improve his dribble a bit. I feel like his high dribble makes him a bit prone to discontinuous dribbles, but there are drills that can help him refine that.
Theo Maledon Highlight reel
I would not melt if we drafted him with our pick.

People always glaze over the positives and go right to the negatives for some reason.
People get so caught up in what a player can't do now, they never focus on what they do well now, and what they may be able to do in the future. I do it too.

I generally gloss over the positives and look at the negatives.
It's so hard to get a finger on what a guy will do when he gets to the NBA.
Watching his highlights, there were two things i really liked.
First thing, i love how he probes the paint patiently waiting for the right opportunity, whether that's to shoot himself, get to the rim (and he uses his body well), or make the pass (really liked the alley-oops).
Second thing, i liked his shot. He looks like he can square up quickly and while it's not the quickest release in the world, it's at worst average, and he hit his threes at a nice rate this year.
I like that he played in the euroleague this year. That is legit competition. I like that he played on a team that won a championship, winning the french league last year.
And i like that he's young and has a ton of potential.
You don't have to be the most athletic guy in the world to be successful in the NBA. Even the best defenders aren't always the most athletic. Granted you need to have at least average athleticism, but being smarter and anticipating plays are far more important to being a great defender.
I think he could stand to put a good 10-15 lbs on him at his height, which probably isn't some stretch considering he just turned 19. 6'5" 180 is a bit skinny. Herro is 6'5" 195, and he's still small out there. SGA is pretty much the same exact size. Kid looks feisty though so i wouldn't worry too much about it.
I think Kira has the potential to be a much better offensive player, but Theo has the potential to be a guy that will be a net positive on both sides of the court.
One thing I want to find, whether in the draft, or in FA, is a young PG that can patiently probe a defense and throw alley oops as well as finish around the rim when necessary, and looks like this guy can do that well.

I like his patience and vision. Also looks to be very physical with little hesitation going to the basket. One again its hard to tell how the NBA transition would go. Looks good for spacing as well. Does anyone know what his projected draft spot is?

I don't think there is a single mock draft out there that has any validity to it.

Whoa there nelly.
I like Killian Hayes better than him.
Maledon is expected to go somewhere in the teens.

More draftees fail than succeed, so it's kinda natural.
