My "Thank you" to AD
Since AD hasn't written a thank you note to New Orleans, I wrote one for him.

Anthony Davis,

Thank you for demanding a trade when you did. The heads-up allowed the Pelicans to quickly rebuild. Last season was odd; it was a memorable season. It resulted in getting Zion and a great haul of assets for you.

Without you forcing your way off the team, the Pelicans would likely still have Demps. You made the franchise re-analyze their course. The Pels now have one of the most respected front-offices in the NBA. Thank you.

You could have left the Pels like Durant did OKC or how LeBron left Cleveland (the 1st time). You left New Orleans in a good situation. The trade for you was great, considering you only have 1 year left on your contract.

I'm not mad at you anymore. I have Zion to cheer for now.

Thank you.

Yeah, I don’t think we need to tell him that.

He’s already getting them at LeBron’s house.

Can’t wait until the LA press starts going at his ass.

He couldn’t stand it when the three reporters who cover the Pels criticized him. And about the entire NBA media establishment chimes in on the Lakers at all times.

I expect the Lakers to crash and burn. LeBron is old with a torn nut-sack or whatever. AD is injury prone. Cousins is disgruntled and washed up. Let's not forget about their circus front office.

You should be careful what you ask for, you just might get it. I think AD is going to flame out on the largest possible stage.

Personally, I don't think AD's as good as everyone thinks. I think he has hallow stats. I think he's a great player for a mediocre team. I put him in the same group as Karl-Anthony Towns.

I think if AD was such a transcendent talent the Pelicans would have been better. Besides the Portland series, he hasn't accomplished much.

re: My "Thank you" to AD
Pretty much.

He has great advanced stats but can’t turn that into wins, which tells me that he is probably better at gaming things than playing winning basketball.

IIRC, the big driving forces behind our sweep of Portland were Jrue’s defense and Rondo as floor general, not AD putting up huge performances. For whatever reason, he is very guard dependent and can’t or won’t take over.

AD's refusal to play C makes it difficult to build a team around him. You have to pay him max-money and then pay a C to man the post. This leads to bad defense.

The Pels played best, after Cousins injury, when AD was forced to play C. AD and Mirotic paired so well because Mirotic was decent at defending the pick-and-roll. C's typically don't defend the pick-and-roll well.

Which is why I fault AD for some of Dell’s dumber moves that were made with this in mind, like trading for Asik then giving him and Ajinca big money rather than getting stretch 4s.

Tyreke and Hill? Dell’s fault. Asik and Ajinca? Brought in specifically because AD hates playing the 5.

I think it has to do with being a "big" that isn't a main ball-handler, versus being a guard or a wing that has the ball in their hands often. You are going to have less of an impact on a game if you are reliant upon others putting you in position to impact the game, rather than putting yourself in that position (by having the ball in your hand initially).

Which is why AD is more of the best number 2 option you can have on a team, rather than a true number 1.

Right, but some of that is on Dell, too. Oddly enough, Favors would be a great compliment next to AD if he was adamant on playing the 4.

It's AD's fault that Dell had to invest into "bigs" to play alongside him, but it's Dell's fault that he invested into the wrong bigs.

Which may be true except everyone tries to twist things as “he’s a superstar but we didn’t put talent around him.”

We DID put talent around him and he couldn’t or wouldn’t do what was required, like play center, unless he was absolutely forced to.

re: My "Thank you" to AD
How many centers were available at the time we got those two?

Keep in mind we had no draft pick in 2014 (Jrue trade in 2013) and had minimal cap space thanks to having Gordon, Tyreke, Jrue, Ryan Anderson, and Davis on the roster.

re: My "Thank you" to AD
I honestly don’t know what AD’s best individual career highlight is to this point

The buzzer beater against OKC from 5 years ago?

Like he’s the most forgettable top guy I can recall watching

I thought about this earlier, and the buzzer beater against OKC was what came to mind. I don't even remember any individual plays against Portland from AD. I do remember Jrue erasing Connaughton at the rim, dunking on Nurkic, hitting that pull up 3 at the end of game 2, and I think there was a clutch strip of Lillard that I remember from that series, too unless that was from a different game that I'm remembering.

The Pelicans should have never traded Lopez for Tyreke.

The Lakers need AD to play C to reach full potential. Since Davis is such a LeBron fanboy, he needs to watch games of when Lebron was playing for the Heat. Who was their C? Skinny arse Chris Bosh. Their best front-court is playing Lebron, Kuzma, and AD together.

Let's not forget, the Lakers haven't been to the playoffs since 2012. If the Lakers don't win, LeBron will quickly turn on AD. The Lakers 2021 1st round pick could end up being very valuable. AD is only signed for 2020.
