Mrs. B Comments about AD

Pelicans owner Gayle Benson talked about Anthony Davis a bit in her extensive Q&A with my guy @LarryHolder. (Larry killed this btw)
She also said people in New Orleans may stop booing Alvin Gentry in intros if he started smiling a little more lol LINK
Honestly there isn't much here other than that life without AD is something they appear to have accepted as a possibility. That might be part of why Demps seems to be somewhat conservative right now with regards to trades.

See, even SHE has accepted Gentry’s talking points.

Did y'all not read the part where she says "if he wants to leave, we can't hold him back"?
That's an oddly refreshing quote. At least it shows she's aware of what's going on. I would think people would be relieved that she’s paying attention.

I mean. She’s so hands off. She shows off for the occasional game and sits in the suite. I don’t blame her. She’s not a basketball mind. It’s Loomis that really needs to give us some answers.

They laugh but this team is a solid win streak away from sucking them back in and they know it.
And I agree, the basic point is they appear realistic about the situation and not hellbent in keeping AD at all costs. The one thing that worries me about this attitude is I think it’s a possible sign that Demps and Gentry survive AD leaving.

I would be very far from surprised.
At this point, I think Dell survives anything. He's the Marvin Lewis of NBA GMs, but without all of the "success".

Makes you wonder if AD has already told them privately his chances of staying are not good.

I'm sure Gayle isn't waking up in the morning and watching ESPN, or following Bill Simmons and Zach Lowe on twitter. So I agree with you, he's probably spoken to them privately about it.

And if that’s the case, you can’t trade the first round pick.
If they do, it needs to be heavily protected. This team isn't about to turn it around. They're 4-16 on the road with 7 of their next 10 away from New Orleans. Games against Cleveland, Minnesota, LA Clippers, Golden State, Portland, Memphis, and OKC.
Even the next 4 after that, 2 are on the road in Houston and San Antonio. It's ugly now, but it's only going to get uglier in the next few weeks.

it will come some time later this month, after Niko returns

It'll come over the next week and half. CLE/MEM/CLE/MIN is a recipe for a streak.

And that still leaves you 1 game below .500 (if they actually manage not to choke one of those games away), then the next dozen or so games are a brutal stretch that the Pels will be lucky to go 4-8 in. Leaving them at 5 games (or more) under .500 with less than 30 games left and the trade deadline right in their face.
I am hoping they are just accepting AD will leave and don't throw away any more assets for a short term piece.

I appreciate the organization’s commitment to continuity and stability. You don’t see much of that today. But I think it’s clear that Davis has told them in private much the same thing that he has said in public: that he has reached the point in his career where competing for championships is his priority. If he doesn’t see the chance to accomplish that here, he won’t be sticking around.
Counting on big winning streaks to dig you out of a hole year after year is not championship-level basketball.

Oh I'm well aware of the math. Just pointing out that a 4-5 game win streak in more likely to happen now rather than later this month. We'll be lucky to get PTAO the rest of January.
