How long you've wanted to fire him is irrelevant. This thread is about firing Monty now in season. I get that people are frustrated but that doesn't make firing Monty now a good move. Usually teams that fire a coach in season are total shite shows, not 3 game removed from talking about the MVP leading them to the playoffs.

I'm not happy with Monty right now, but it's too early in the season to fire him. Our roster is just awful right now.

Just because 90% of this board was ready to fire him last year and the team isn't off to an impressive start doesn't mean Interim Coach Randy Ayers will improve anything.

No one is assuming that it will be better with Ayers. In fact, it'll probably be the same.

But we don't know for sure.

We know for sure, that this team is going nowhere with Monty.

We fired Byron Scott after nine games.

ATL, you continue to raise good points.

The issue is not whether to fire Monty now or later. There are two considerations:

What does Davis want?
With whom do you replace Monty with?

It's nice to assume Coach Whoever would just love love love to coach here, but how many of those guys did not end up in Cleveland, LA, GS in recent times? desirable jobs for many reasons.

I am far from happy, but assuming there is some answer in an envelope we just aren't opening is absurd and would be understandably infuriating.

Personally, I'm waiting to see how this team plays in January and following. Even if this team were 10-5 or better, that could just be noise. Best to see the team in its groove, good or bad.

Something has got to change, and I so wish some meaningful staff changes happened over the summer.

I say we give them a few more weeks to go on a run. If after 30 games, we are still at or right below .500, lets gut it.

Agreed. Monty is trying to figure out new rotations with EG gone. It's been three games. It's not easy with the bench he has to figure out how to maximize productivity. I'm happy Salmons seems to be breaking out a bit and Monty is rewarding him for that. If he can't figure it out come January then it's time to go.

I have a feeling that the record would have been worse if Scott wasn't fired. The team was still in playoff contention until Paul went down with the injury.

c on z dropping knowledge bombs in this thread. Head might explode. That 09-10 season is RIGHT there with 07-08 for most exciting.

There is such a thing as over managing. Bower came in and just got out of the damn way and played the rookies.

A 15-15 start would require a 33-19 finish to even have a shot at the playoffs. So yes, if we want to have ANY shot at being relevant it is probably worth firing this clown.

ETA: the biggest disappoint for me is them being irrelevant in a Saints down year. It doesn't matter to me who comes in after Monty. It CANNOT be worse. This man is the rare unholy mixture of arrogant and stupid. As long as we don't give a 5 year deal to Avery Johnson or trade multiple first rd picks to LAL for Scott, I think we'd be in the clear.

OKC is already closer to the Pels (3 games) than the Pels are to the the team they'd have to jump assuming OKC passes the Pels and gets in (3.5 games) and that's LAC. First realistic team to jump is Dallas maybe? 4.5 games up.

I'm actually in agreement with you Boom. Gut feeling says it'll take 50 this year. Hopefully it's enough to encourage reform of the playoff system when there's a 15 game gap between west 9 and east 8.

And those considerations are why you don't fire him now. Unless you have a replacement lined up like JVG then I can only see potential negative consequences to an in season firing.

I think the people with the torches and pitchforks out now are concerned that he'll be able to survive under performing again, and that certainly is a concern. The only clue we've gotten out of what Loomis/Benson think of Demps/Monty is Zach Lowe saying last year that Monty was safer than Demps. I personally think they both get fired at the end of the year unless they just barely miss the playoffs like Phoenix did, but our opinions don't count, part of why these guys are so frustrated.

I agree. There is no way around it. He is not a good coach.
