Crewz, how serious are you about the possibility of the Bucks Niko returning after the Bucks declining to re-sign the guy, and he ends up here? All things considered, the trade on its face didn't make sense to me, but I'm not sure the Pels are
capable of playing 4-D chess to that extent.

That's up to the new GM to decide...

I don't know how plugged in Nancy Lieberman is to the Pels, they do make her portion of the show in Dallas afterall, but when discussing the trade she threw out the figure "he may be looking for $95 million". Most of us thought 4/$80 would be too much, if the front office thinks he could get more than that, he really will be Ryan Anderson 2.0 and the Pels did good to trade him.

He couldn’t legally sign here if he leaves the Bucks, right?

He could next season. It's a convoluted rule so the reporting on it hasn't always been clear.

quote:

A team cannot reacquire a player it traded away during the same season (a season for this purpose being defined as starting on the first day of the regular season and ending on the last day of the Finals). If the player was traded between seasons (i.e., from the first day after the Finals to the last day prior to the start of the next regular season), it cannot reacquire the player prior to the end of the next season. If he is waived by his new team, then he cannot re-sign with his original team until the one-year anniversary of the trade, or until the July 1 following the end of his contract, whichever comes first6. However, if a team trades a player's draft rights, it can reacquire the player during the same season.

Why didn't it make sense? High probability Mirotic would walk at the end of this season so you got something when you could have gotten nothing.

You get assets, plus you don't give the player leverage contract wise because he doesn't have Bird Rights with the Pels anymore.

That, of course, relies on Threekola wanting to come back. But as Crewzy says, the Bucks have to pay a lot of guys this off season and Mirotic is probably just a rental for them.

I’m not sure that I agree with your assessment of the probabilities. That’s my issue

I think he's worth $95 million over the 4 years on some teams.
I would make him work with a trainer and come to the season in optimum condition.

Musical chairs.
