After an offseason full of collecting assets and quality players, inspiring press conferences, an exciting summer league, and a perfect preseason, David Griffin had a 100% approval rating. Even national media members were drooling over the prospects of the Pelicans future, and Pelicans fans were flying high. Cut to less than 8 weeks later, and the roster looks like a dumpster fire that gets more gasoline added to it daily. Lucky for Griffin and the Pelicans, trade season is here.
It's only been 8 weeks? It's amazing how quickly things fell apart since the preseason.
It's a long article so click the link at the bottom if you want the details. Bullet Points:
* Trade Lonzo now. He's a former #2 pick and will not likely accept a role or 2nd contract more appropriate for the limited skill set he's displayed. Look for a veteran in return and maybe some 2nds or late 1sts. Vets like Tomas Satoransky/Patty Mills/Demarre Carroll
* Look to move expiring Moore & Miller to clear cap space to a team with some shorter term bad deals like Minnesota/Charlotte/Detroit/Miami. The return wouldn't be much, likely a prospect and late 1st or 2nds. But it allows the Pels to get an expiring trade chip for next year when they won't have the cap space to sign one.
* Unless Jrue asks out, don't trade him now, wait until the offseason when a bad FA market will give him more value
* Don't trade Redick, in fact we need more vets like Redick.
* Frank Jackson - See if you can find a Demps style trash for trash that works out for the Pels because of fit trade. MM mentions Wesley Iwundu or Chandler Hutchinson as possible targets.
* Everyone else you keep. They have more value to the Pels than the trade market.

If you trade Ball and Frank, who are your PGs?

2 of the trade targets for Lonzo are PGs, Satoransky and Patty Mills.
Frank isn’t a PG, he’s a scorer.

I couldn't find anything in that to disagree with, except I wonder if Favors isn't worth more than a 2nd -- I think he's wrong about that.

I agree with you on Favors. Maybe he doesn’t get you many future assets but I bet he could be a key piece in a trade for a good player like Myles Turner. He also is looking like he’s missing another game for personal reasons.
I don’t know what to make of that. The recent interview made it clear how close he was to his mother, so maybe he’s not up to it yet, but I do wonder if Griff has a trade ready to happen Sunday involving Favors.

We were already thin in the front court and we haven’t had the expected starter bigs, Zion and Favors. The current result is basically expected. The team results and looks are completely different with just decent play from those two.

He has 2 reasonably developed skills, hitting the 3 and driving to the basket. It's not a bad skill set, it's just limited. Do you really believe someone averaging 2.5 assists per 36 minutes is a PG?
But this thread shouldn't be about Frank Jackson. We fortunately have moved passed the point where we have so little talent that getting a better fitting 10th man was a significant move. Also I would put Frank in the category of having more value to the Pels than the trade market. Frank needs to stop being Jrue's understudy and start being Redick's. That's what will give him more than a fringe future in the league, taking his 2 existing skills and putting them in constant motion like Redick does.

Please dear God. I don't understand why y'all like him. He's worse than Zo

This article makes alot of sense. Makes me kind of change my mind. I been big on let Lonzo develop and dont trade him 25 cents on the dollar but we likely will be getting another lottery pick and its hard to think a coaching staff can bring along three players under 20 plus help develop Lonzo. So yes this makes alot of sense.

Are you serious? Who are they now. Jrue replaces whatever ball can do. And Naw is already better then Frank and PG.

Now that is insightful. Frank as a JJ understudy is not a bad idea. Frank has the jets and motor to be able to pull it off. I like this idea. I can see him going from pick to pick to quick pop.
Although having Jrue take him in was okay; it is time to open the hand and let the birdie fly so to speak and become what he is: a scorer; a shooter, a driver.

Well, he's already learning how to be almost as bad as Redick on defense. Among players who've played 200 minutes this season, Frank places in the 10 worst in the league in advanced stats.
I don't believe that Frank has the lateral quickness to ever be a good defender, so I believe that his potential upside is tiny.

Debate was in a vacuum having JJ mentor Frank to be more of a two and do away with the PG idea was what was meant.
Defensively, JJ and Frank or equals. Frank as a tenth player on a bench as a shooter scorer would be okay. He is not even in the running for PG duties.

I would see if Charlotte is finally done with Monk. Yeah he's been terrible, but as a prospect he may be worth taking a shot on for his shot alone. I'm willing to take a chance on shooting

When is the trade deadline? in February? I feel like an article like this has been coming out every year for the Pels and every year we do nothing. Maybe this year is different or maybe it isn't. I don't see a trade happening anytime soon. I have a feeling Griff wants to see this team at full strength unless he already knows that Zion is going to be out longer or the entire season, moves will not be made until the deadline.
