Pels must find creative ways to make the team better for Davis that doesn’t involve Cousins

I'm not going to lie, the parallels I see between the Cousins resigning and the Eric Gordon resigning are a little disturbing. It wasn't too long after resigning him that Jared Dudley and a 1st all of a sudden didn't seem like selling low. But hopefully this isn't Gordon 2.0. I'm more optimistic than most that Boogie will return at a decently high level. Plus I don't see how the Pels don't resign Cousins. The GM wants it, the coach wants it, the players want it, and most of the fans want it.

lemonhead never wanted to be here, and acted that way.
Cousins wants to be here.

I think even if he's not his old self, if he can run the floor and be in shape, he will still be a force to reckon with on the offensive side of things. WHen he gets deep post position, you can't stop him, and you don't need athleticism for that.
If his ability to dribble and drive goes away, he'll have to refine his game to more of a mid range jump shooter and post player, more of a all star David West type game.

Yep, but it will be much worse given the injury & Cousins’ size.

I want to be optimistic but just can’t given the history of the injury. On top of that why do people expect Cousins to change his game all of a sudden? The dude has played the same way his whole career even when it was detrimental to the team. He isn’t humble enough to change.

I hope the Pels offer Boogie the same contract that Jrue signed. That seems fair. If he doesn't accept that, do a sign-and-trade with Washington for the max.

That trade for all of those guys was not the proposed deal in the article. It said some combination of those guys.

In an ideal world Porter and Oubre for Cousins would make sense, even with no picks involved. You add two young wings, and AD plays center full time.

Unfortunately this isn't an ideal world and AD doesn't want to play center full time. I'm wondering if this playoff run is making him re-consider that, though.

Sign and trades are extremely rare.

They are, but in a world where cap space is limited they aren't unheard of.

Most of his expected new deficiencies can be overcome by playing smarter and relying on his teammates more. I think the Pels post season success and Mirotic playing so well changes the relationship so that when he comes back he will have to adjust to the team rather than expecting the team to adjust to him. Winning is good at curing all kinds of bad attitudes and competition (Niko) is good motivation for breaking bad habits.

This summer has some crazy star movement potential.

McCollum
Lillard
Kawhi
Paul George
LeBron
Kemba
Beal/Wall/Porter, Washington will have to change something

yeah i have a hard time believing Wall/Beal/Porter will all be on Washington next year.

I would bet the one they want to move is Wall, but considering he's entering into a 5 year ridiculous contract starting next year, that might be difficult to find a suitor, and to get even somewhat equal value back.

He is very mercurial based on matchup. I think Portland was a good matchup for him but GS will present a challenge

I think you use him as a piece to gain a better piece if it’s out there

Anyone should want PG over Niko, but I think you are undersellling the Niko/Davis fit. I know Niko's shooting can eb streaky, but he contributes so much in other ways I don't think he is as matchup dependent as some think.

That narrative got started with him playing poorly against better teams when he firt got here, but he needed time to adjust to his role and learn his teammates.

Niko's ability to play with pace, stretch the floor, and guard centers allows us to maximize AD. Even when Niko was adjusting offensively and trying to do too much, he was still a huge improvement with his defense and spacing.

I was a big proponent of trying to get Kelly Olynyk for the same reasons. Olynyk has raised his stock too much and his contract is too expensive to consider anymore. If we use Niko to upgrade the wing, then I would like to see us target Mike Muscala from the Hawks as a Niko-lite replacement 3rd big. He is a $5M expiring and checks off a lot of the boxes that Niko does. He was also a Ferry draft pick.

None. He signed a 1 year deal.

And we don't have his full bird rights I don't think, so we can only resign him for a modest raise (4 million) or the Tax Payer MLE (5.3 million).

Nope.

What if some team on the verge of the playoffs offers him 10 million? 9? 12? 15?

I think he doesn't care about the money and wants to cement his genius, and likes it here. Perfect situation for him to end his career.

But if someone doubles the money we can offer him? Triples it? All bets are off.

We will certainly offer him what we can.

I think Rondo is in a good position in New Orleans to raise his stock for his next gig, and that's a coaching gig.

I don't know if he, or anyone else for that matter will ever step into coaching right after their playing career ends b/c of Kidd and Fisher's tenure, but Rondo is going to be a coach one day.
