Let’s talk about the current projected roster going forward.
Guards: Lonzo Ball, Eric Bledsoe, NAW, JJ Redick, Kira Lewis

Forwards: Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson, Josh Hart, Nicolo Melli

Center: Steven Adams, Jaxson Hayes, Willy Hernangomez.

So what are our thoughts on what we need going forward, what the potential lineups could be, finishing 5, what the gaping holes are, etc.

Edit: added Hernangomez

Should Hart really be classified as a wing?

There are guys that are just borderline and we have some roster flexible guys. Hart is a 2/3 so he treads the line.

I have him at Wing just for purposes of this thread.

At this point they need to either finalize the trade or walk away from Steven Adams. That trade is holding up every other one of our moves, because until we know what we have in salary, we cannot know our salaries we can offer out.

I really think we are missing out on some good players that can help now because of it.

Hart played 78% of the time last season as a SF according to BBallRef

re: Let’s talk about the current projected roster going forward.
I feel like he should be a guard for the purposes of this thread since we still need a 3 and d wing and we aren't exactly looking forward to Hart doing that full time. Ingram gets the most minutes, some phantom player will get the second most, and Hart should fill in when we go small/foul trouble/injuries.

Do we want him playing that many minutes there? I thought the consensus was that we wanted a bigger wing.

Hart has played every minute of his NBA career at shooting guard or small forward. On what planet is he not a wing?

Sounds about right. Not sure you would call that an ideal distribution though.

One of our needs is almost certainly a true wing defender that can also stretch the floor.

Someone with the size and skill to match up against the better SF’s in the league and not be a net negative on offense

re: Let’s talk about the current projected roster going forward.
Ball $11
Zion $10.2
Hayes $5.1
Hart $3.5
NAW $3.1
Melli $3.9
Redick $13
Kira $3.6
BI $27.3

Adams $27.5
Bledsoe $16.9

Total Salaries: $125.1M

Tax: $132.6M

Full MLE is $9.2
Unless we get rid of salary, b/c i doubt we want to be a tax team, we are just signing near minimum contracts to fill out the roster.

If you ask me, Lonzo needs to go, and we need to get back a true SF wing. And i am not saying to send out Lonzo to avoid the tax or to make room to sign the full MLE, that would be a dumb reason to move him. You move him b/c he doesn't fit on this team b/c he's not a PG, and BI needs to play SG.
Bledsoe is the PG until Kira can develop
BI is the SG with Hart and Redick backing him and NAW still developing. Redick leaves and in comes Didi.
We have no SF, but this is a position we need to fill, with someone that will play starter minutes, so see ya later Lonzo. He's an expiring you have to make a choice on, just like Redick. It doesn't need to be right now, but it needs to be made this year before the trade deadline. Make this trade and then bring in someone like Batum or Evan Turner or MKG or if you want a true defender, Roberson.
Zion and Melli are your PF's. a small ball 4/5 should be added, like Ilyasova
Adams and Hayes are your 5's. a minimum 5 should be picked up. John Henson or Alex Len would do.

Lonzo to Hornets
PJ Williams and Huerter to Pelicans.
Atlanta gets some kind of 1st and Hornets are sending out some kind of 1st.
and we save about $5M doing this.

Athletic rim protecting stretch center, 3 and D wing that can guard 2-4. That wing may or may not need to be starter capable depending on how Lonzo looks in a more full time SG style role next to Bledsoe/Kira.

That would be my wants for this roster at this moment.

Because everyone here wants another wing so it doesn't seem like they want Hart there full-time. I mean neither do I but alot of people here list him as a SF.

Throw out a possible trade that makes sense with shipping out Lonzo and bringing back a 3&D wing.

Maybe we are having issues with terminology? A wing is a SG/SF. Hart is and always has been and always will be a wing. I think you mean small forward specifically. And yes, Hart is built more like a SG.

I do mean SF when I say wing. Positions are confusing in the new NBA.

Just for my own knowledge (or lack thereof), what is the issue with us being a tax team? Does it actually affect anything or anyone other than gayle’s bank balance?

Look at what golden state is having to pay just to sign oubre for one season. That's was being a tax team does. Now I think they are paying the repeater tax too which means they've been in the luxury tax area already. So that's why it's something you want to hold off paying until your team is ready.

Yep, the repeater tax is the biggie.

No point in barely going over the tax for this team at this time.
