When this first went down my first thought was "F the Lakers, hope they never win a goddamn thing". However, there's a part of me that's kind of thinking we should hope they win the title next year. If the Warriors get healthy/retooled, they could easily go right back to being a prohibitive favorite 2 years from now. If so, next year is most likely the best chance for a LeBron/AD title. Assuming the top 8 protected pick doesn't come to frution, year 3 is when we really need them to start regressing. I contend that if they win the title in the two year window it's more likely that they aren't as competitive year 3 and on. Lakers are content, got what they wanted. No need for LeBron to chase a ring, no need for ring chasing vets to come to L.A. on the cheap, maybe AD even moves on instead of sticking around for a rebuild.

TL/DR... Question - If your ONLY goal/criteria is a title for NOLA in the Zion era, should you be "rooting" for the Lakers to win the title next year?

I don't want the Lakers to ever win a game especially the championship game....ever.

If they win a title, they get more ring chasers. If you think Lebron will be content just getting one more, you don't follow the guy. He is chasing history.

I dont Think that tracks.

LeBron needs like 4 more rings.

And ring chasers will always chase rings.

If they’re good 2 years from now they’ll be a team for ring chasers.

Perfect scenario is they don't win a championship next year and AD catches the heat for it. He decides to bolt, LeBron demands a trade, and the Pelicans keep grabbing lottery picks from the dumpster fire left over through 2024/25.

I hope they are bad next year. I hope they are bad the year after that. The year after that. The year after that. Etc. Etc. Etc.

I’m interested to see how AD’s health is now that he’s out of New Orleans. Not counting last year, he averages 68 games a season and always has some ailment.

That is a perfect scenario.

That's fair. I just think he'll get crowned by a lot of people after winning with a 3rd franchise and getting all the way to 6 doesn't seem realistic at his age and with the miles he's put on his body. I think we'd benefit from year 3 not being a last gasp at a title season for him and L.A.
