kushner...pels need to stop pretending
this is spot on...nothing about how they are handling davis now makes a lick of sense, at all. somebody other than uncle al needs to step up and speak to the the fans and ticket holders

LINK

quote:

“It’s not the first time he’s been booed, guys,” coach Alvin Gentry said after Friday’s win over the Timberwolves. “I mean, he’s been booed before.”

That is downright laughable and absurd.

It’s also telling of the lengths the franchise needs to go in order to convince you this is isn’t out of the ordinary. Come on. Of course Davis has never been booed in a home game before, and Gentry knows it. Davis is an obscenely talented and decorated college and NBA player who has never sniffed controversy until this debacle.

re: kushner...pels need to stop pretending
They won’t call out the league and they can’t even hint at what they’re AD trade hopes and plans are. Hell, they may not even trade AD if the worst case scenario of the league forcing them to play AD happens.

The Pels are in limbo until after the season, that’s why they aren’t saying anything. I’m glad Kushner is keeping the pressure on because we still need to see change, but what matters is what they do next, not that they took the time to pat our heads and tell us everything was going to be alright.

the booing was mild and somewhat expected. new orleans is a passionate city (although not so much for basketball) and we're seeing dejavu star player wanting to leave us. Good grief. Back to booing, it was mild, it was harmless, it was nearly funny to boo then then cheer from a make.

Great article.

And I agree, Kushner needs to keep that pressure on the Pels and in the public until they make some actual changes.

bill simmons:

quote:

This situation is ludicrous. It’s been a fun NBA season on the court and an absolute train wreck off the court. If you sign a massive deal to be someone’s max player — here’s an idea, show up every night and be their best player. What are you doing AD????

quote:

AD now “wants to play” — after snaking his franchise on a Monday to launch a news cycle, undermining his own trade value, having his agents repeatedly leak stuff to the media, and trying to force a trade to a specific team with a year and a half left on his deal.

quote:

Fans and media have become numb to NBA players doing whatever the F they want. Davis could have waited until this summer to do this — instead he imploded the situation for leverage, it didn’t work, and now he’s pretending to be the victim. “I want to play.” This is so lame.

quote:

I don’t know how the NBA can fix this specific issue, but it completely undermines the concept of a team: Stars grabbing max deals while thinking, “I’ll grab the money now, and if we don’t get better, I’ll just push for a trade.” AKA... Pulling a Carmelo.

quote:

Unfortunately, there are only 3-4 true contenders every year. If you’re an NBA star, there’s an 80-85 percent chance you’re not going to be completely satisfied with your competitive situation. And by the way the next situation probably won’t be great either. See: Kyrie, 2019.

The Pelicans are being held to a standard that the NBA has not held other teams to this season. A very healthy Carmelo Anthony was essentially exiled by the Rockets in November. Memphis' Chandler Parsons and Cleveland's JR Smith, too

If Anthony Davis wants to exercise his right to request a trade, his team should be able to exercise the right to not play him until the trade is made

Stein piling on too. Pels & C's media relations going to be getting overtime this season:

Read this article, it didn't make sense to me.

It seems pretty obvious that playing AD was a mandate from the league, and we can't just come out and say that.

So what would he like for us to do or say?

I was there and overall, it was pretty mild. It was heavier during intros and the first few minutes. After that, if pretty much died down to minimal boos.

i believe they should sit him, and eat the fines.
i also believe that either gayle or loomis should issue a statement outlining exactly what the plan here is, going forward

galvanize and inform the fan base...there is opportunity here to come out of this river of shite clean and energized, just like andy dufresne

I agree that reassurance from the team is a bit of a silly demand, but the important thing here is Kushner is keeping up the pressure, which is needed. The pressure needs to remain until we see actual change happening, and that may not happen until May or June, which means Kushner has his work cut out for him. Keep it up Scott

What about the alleged threat of lost draft picks? I have to think that was real or the team would have just eaten a fine. They should be way below the projected budget for the year anyway with the way the Boogie injury blew up their roster plans.

I think they are waiting a few weeks. They don't want to fire Demps right now and move Loomis out of POBO and then the meme in the media is "They were fired because they couldn't get that super fair deal with the Lakers done".

They want it to be what it actually is: that Demps failed in putting together a team around Davis and its time to move on.

So I think they wait until at least March, possibly until the end of the season.

Once they do that I think you will see some sharp clarity on what is happening going forward.

I also think you will see a quick hire, because I think they will be doing all of the legwork behind the scenes.

NBA Media/Twitter is piling on the league today. Hopefully the league continues to get egg on its face for this bull shite.

Or AD could have pulled a Shaq or KD & walked leaving the Pelicans with absolutely nothing . Or behaved as unprofessionally as some think Kawhi Leonard did with the Spurs.

AD has acted with class. Hasn't quit on his teammates. And given the Pelicans a chance to rebuild with delusional dreams of Zion,Tatum ,etc...that the franchise will probably blow.

The Pelicans need to publicly acknowledge that the league is forcing their hand, and they need to challenge it PUBLICLY. The LEAGUE needs to be answering questions, not us. Adam Silver's silence in all of this is not a good play. We are doing a bad job at forcing the pressure and the narrative.

No

I AM appreciative of him giving us a headsup and allowing us to get value for him unlike Durant or Lebron.

What is awful is how his management team handled it, and trying to strong arm a perceived weak franchise into moving him to one spot.

And colluding with that team over the summer to get it done.

Keep it quiet. Tell them you won't re-sign and give them a chance to trade you. Keep everything out of the media and don't try to strong arm your way to one particular team.
