re: Kushner: Discussions with SVG have gone very well, there is “mutual respect” there.
Eh, teams will often do this and once they have their guy, they just make the deal. Most people understand how this works.

That being said, there's not really a rush anymore. OKC, Houston, and Indy do not seem to be playing in the same pool of candidates that we are so no one is going to poach SVG for instance.

Also: the report could just be wrong and we have already met with everyone, or are meeting with them this week or weekend.

This isn’t to say SVG is the front runner — but he’s clearly a viable candidate.

Really don’t understand this obsession with “non-retread” coaches. For almost no other job this high level would it be a plus to have never had the job before. CEOs are typically: CEOs at another company, high level executives from a bigger company, or high level executives in that org.

So really:
1. Hire someone who was a previous coach
2. Hire an assistant coach from your org

These are the examples that have really worked. The best former assistants were the ones hired by their current organization.

So many people have this crazy idea that, somehow, it's impossible for coaches to learn from past failures and become better.

Anyone else getting the feeling SVG isn’t a guarantee anymore?

I believe the remaining interviews are most if not all assistants. They probably are also people that Griff wants to hire as lead assistant if he doesn't choose them as HC. Look at what he did with the GM, hiring the other top candidate on the market to back him up. He's said from the beginning he's going to hire as many highly qualified people as he can and sort roles and such later and that's what he's done the whole time he's been here.

If you announce Stan now, or even leak anything stronger than what was leaked, then the assistants you want to bait and switch may not show up. There's also the small chance they blow you away and maybe you have to bait and switch Stan. I think being non committal until they finish the interviews fits how Griffin has run things since he got here.

Also, I don't think I've heard SVG being up for any other jobs so even if he is the clear choice for Griff, there's not the pressure to lock him up before he gets away. He still may pick someone else, I just don't think a lack of locking Stan up has significant meaning other than Griff doesn't feel he needs to.

All kidding aside I think if he was a lead pipe lock they would have just had the deal done quick.

I think he is the front runner and will likely get the job, though.
