Kendrick Perkins & Marcus Spears Pels discussion- Perk fully on board now -Conf Finals!?-

I'm sick of Perk as much as anyone, but this was a good discussion about the team in general and on Zion in particular.
Perk is fully on the bandwagon and thinks its not unreasonable to say we can be in the Conference Finals this year.

These type of expectations from the national media really make me nervous. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the positive talk.
But I think talking about us as a Western Conference Finals team or even a FINALS team as Perk said...that's too high. We are missing a step there and setting up the media "fail" story if they fall short in the playoffs.
This team is fun and will be exciting and good. That's good enough for me for now.
I guess I don't know how to deal with unmitigated gushing about the damn Pelicans.

Perk did make the qualifier that lack of experience could be the reason we don't advance that far which is what it sounds like you're saying as well. That's a very fair argument as its not very common to make such a huge jump in 1 year (without a blockbuster trade involved).

Getting zion back is like making a block buster move IMO. Not to mention Dyson Daniels is a huge get for us. Pelicans are going to be big time. Top 5 seed in the west lock in my eyes. Finals? Idk. BI Herb and others got some much needed experience though.

Ehh. If we make it to the playoffs as a top 4 seed and get to the 2nd round or beyond, no one in the media will be talking about how we failed to live up to expectations.
If we straight up miss the playoffs, that’s a huge fail and black eye for the franchise but no one is really holding us to a DEEP playoff run.

In recent memory we have had Phoenix and Memphis end their seasons hot and then the following year make the giant leap to top 2 seeds.
So it happens. I think we are primed for a big jump but the expectations make me nervous.

I can't begin to describe to you guys how fricked the league is this year. To have continuity is one thing. To have talent on your roster is another. To have young hungry dudes that want to develop and get better like herb and trey is also huge.
Teams have some of these elements. The Pels have ALL of them.

zion looked real good to me so far. if they all get to playoffs with minimal injury they can get up in the 4/5 series and avoid the big boys a round.

Oh I think it will happen and we end up as a top 4 seed. Just saying its a fair argument for a fairly young team.

He’s not wrong. If Trey and Herb Make modest improvement and Zion be what he was before his injury, we are fricking stacked.
