Doesn't necessarily mean they are playing for free.

In front of 3,000 fans? How much money do you think they're really pulling in?

I just think unlike football, basketball players can make their own league or find better ways to make money. You don't need 40 plus players to make a team

Who is paying them? What arenas are they going to use? Who is paying the insurance? There's a lot more to it logistically than showing up and playing a game.

Say you find someone interesting in funding this endeavor, won't they want some insurance that the players won't walk immediately back to the NBA when a deal is struck? I think it would depend heavily on decertifying before they could even make that move.

Ticket sales only get you so far. TV and corporate sponsorships make up the bulk of league revenue, no way will they be able to duplicate that on a league scale. At best you'll get a bunch of exhibition games that will keep the top 100 players out of the poor house. Players 101-450 will have to leave the country to make a living playing basketball.

I think that what this whole dispute has illustrated to me is that each big name player is out for himself. As such, they'll reach an agreement before losing too much money.

The idea that the players would stick to the guns seems to be grounded in the players having altruistic motives. It's about the players looking out for future players. The stars who have been dominating the discussion don't even give a damn about their own teammates, much less future players. Maybe they'll prove me wrong, but I think the players have shown themselves as pretty greedy. That is with regards to their fellow players, not the owners.

If I'm a legit star, I would be pissed that my contract is capped. On the open market Paul et al would fetch more than $16 million. Meanwhile the money that should go to Paul goes to Posey/Ariza and inflates their salaries.
