Military in Vietnam used to call that situation a “golden bullet” or “golden wound”.

Enough to take you out of action and out of theater but not enough to mess you up for life.

I think the DV's are because of OP being upset we gave away Cheatham and Williams. Could be wrong tho.

Not upset about it, just saying I'd rather have sent Frank and kept at least 1 of them.

Thank god this deal is done. Now we have to figure out how to fill out the rest of the roster spots.

Steven Adams did not have to waive his $2M trade bonus (7.5% of owed salary) to make the deal to New Orleans work.

Cap hit for Adams is now $29.59M

Puts us even closer to LT territory.

We currently have 11 players under contract (once Ingram signs his max), with 128,663,167 in space tied up

Didn't we get semi-official word at one point that Gayle had expressed willingness to pay some tax if necessary?

I think she is, but I doubt she is for a team that’s going to be in a battle for the 10th seed

ETA: marks is still saying we’re 6 mil below the tax line. So we still may be able to spend about 4 mil on 1 player and add two other minimums.

How I would finish up the offseason:

1. Target one guy who is solid and getting minimum offers, give him 2.5 to 3-ish

2. Find a former total bust that wants a chance to rehab his career. Give guaranteed min (beats partial guarantee offers)

3. Old vet on min

quote:

So, for some examples of each:

1. Korkmaz, A. Roberson, C. Boucher, N. Peele, A. Len, S Harrison, Napier

2. Sterling Brown, Justin Anderson, Vonleh, MKG, Caboclo, T. Maker, Mudiay

3. D. Carroll, J. Henson, S. Hill, Mahinmi, De Colo, Delly

List of potential gets from Mac. Would be perfectly fine with a few of those guys on cheap deals.

Wouldn’t mind Roberson for the people who are obsessed with getting a “wing defender”.

Wouldn't mind a combination of Boucher, MKG, and Carroll. MKG and Carroll could be useful as 3/4 combo forwards. Obviously MKG does nothing for shooting / spacing though

Some of those guys are gone.

We aren’t going to pay the tax this year. You don’t do that until you’re a true contender because of the Repeater Tax.

I think at this point, given how long it took to complete, how close we are to tax, and how little we have to work with to improve the roster, it’s perfectly reasonable to say you like the player in Adams (I love adams, big fan), but question the all around cost acquire him (picks, cap space, losing out on other FAs, etc). It’s all reasonable.

But it’s done and it’s time to see what else Griff has up his sleeve and enjoy a more vocal, tougher, more aggressive team.

This is when Griffin realizes that it would have been good to draft a guy in the 2nd round to have a cheap salary.

Let’s see what he does before we make these assumptions.

Hmmm..... where have I heard that before?
Sure would be nice to have Tyler Bey, that older 3/4 guy with a high motor to give a shot at our weakest position.

Repeater tax is a thing. Though Adams should be on vastly less next year.

It's a palatable trade in vaccuum, when you stack it up a against opportunity cost, there's a clear winner and loser.

I mean sure as hell better than giving up a Melli, NAW
