Joel said he would be surprised if coach wasn't hired within the next week.

He specifically name dropped Unseld Jr., Ham and Weaver. In passing he mentioned he's sure we had talks with SVG, but he didn't sound like he believes he is a serious candidate.

Did he actually say that or was he just not talking about him much compared to the others?

He didn't mention him much, just in passing, but he just sounded like he didn't think he's a serious candidate. He also talked about SVG and retread coaches ages and how he doesn't believe they will be able to reach our roster like a younger coach would.

Well I'm glad the org isn't asking him for advice then.

Edit: down vote away, I'm fine with a coach that has a legit track record of being successful with big men like SVG.

Let’s be real, it’s doubtful Joel knows much more than minor scuttlebutt within the team.

But we did interview Ham, Unseld and Weaver in the 9 initial candidates by reports so sort of makes sense.

Give me Will Weaver, who seems to have the most experience with development of young players.

Not really high on Unseld Jr at all, or SVG for that matter. I wouldn't mind Ham, but I wouldn't put him in my top 4.

Big fan of Weaver, but Unseld has more experience developing young players.

Unseld left the Nuggets b/c they wouldn't promote him to the bench, after 14 years. What does that tell you?
He was also fired in Orlando with Jacque Vaughn. How often do you hear an assistant coach was fired mid season?

Unseld is a defensive coach yet his defense was middle of the road this season. Idk i don’t get the hype really

He doesn't know how to be a leader of men.

I did not say that I prefer Unseld (I'd go 1 Weaver, 2 Ham, 3 Unseld), just that he objectively has more experience developing young guys than Weaver.

Maybe, maybe not. He has had some info in the past. SVG name being leaked almost seems like a balloon was floated to try and pressure Lue into making a decision. The longer it goes on, the less I am convinced he is the leader. Ham is interesting. His experience with Bucks may be helpful in building around Zion. I see Zion/BI somewhat similar to Giannis/Middleton in how they could be used.
