Is Stackhouse more of a possibility than we are discussing?

A random twitter account called “Coaching Changes” with 18k followers posted this the other day:

quote:

Word on the street: Vanderbilt's Jerry Stackhouse has been trying so hard to exit Nashville. His latest move is having pelican players go to Griff to get him the job.He fired CAA so that didn't help him with the Knicks.JS can't & doesn't like recruiting so college ain't for him.

Oleh posted today wondering if Stackhouse is even more of a possibility in the wake of Nash getting hired due to his connections with KD.

Antonio Daniels posted this in reply:

quote:

Whether horizontal or vertical...relationships are the most important thing we have in our lives.

Obviously a bit tongue in cheek, but also referring to Stack’s relationship with BI.

All of this likely means nothing, I just thought it was worth bringing up.

I would be on board for two reasons:

(1) I like Stack as a coaching prospect
(2) It gets him out of the SEC

Vandy sucked last year so I’m not sure you can be that worried.

They do have a relatively high ranked recruiting class in 2021 though (for them, at least).

I don't know how biased this is because it is from a local Tennessee reporter, but he voted Stack SEC coach of the year because he thought he did well considering the roster he had.

quote:

The first-year Commodores coach inherited a roster that didn’t win an SEC game last season. He returned only two of the top seven contributors from that roster.

He lost his best big man in December when Clevon Brown suffered a knee injury. He lost his best player in early January when likely NBA first-rounder Aaron Nesmith — and his 23 points per game — suffered a season-ending foot injury.

Then Stackhouse made the Commodores better. He turned a freshman-reliant roster that played multiple walk-ons in most games into a team that won three of its final 10 regular-season games.

Winning 3 out of 10 doesn't seem like something you should get excited about, but playing multiple walk-ons does suggest the roster was in pretty bad shape. I don't follow college ball, is beating LSU, Bama and South Carolina this year an accomplishment, or just beating the other teams near the bottom?

I wasn’t disparaging him as a coach. He did a good job all things considered. I just wouldn’t worry that much about Vandy

Well he beat LSU with a garbage roster last season in year one of a build. I'm pretty concerned about that program when he gets some players there.

Stackhouse is Ingram’s mentor

Both are Kinston, NC natives

I don't remember last year, but his most recent set of "Bold Predictions" had Darvin Ham becoming the coach.

I wouldn’t mind Jerry Stackhouse or Darvin Ham but what do you guys think about Sam Cassell?

I like Cassell. Started a thread on him today.

I am curious why he hasn’t gotten a job in 11 years as an assistant.
