@ScottDKushner

Entering Day 2, the most impactful item for the Pelicans is Kawhi Leonard.

If he signs long-term with the Lakers, the value of the various picks and swaps received in the AD trade takes a nosedive in the near-term trade market.

Go Clips.

Interesting observation or just stating the obvious? I’m leaning to the second one.

Where Kawhi lands is literally of the most important domino for about a dozen teams.

I mean if we are hoping who gets Kawhi, the order is:

1. Raptors

2. Clippers

3. Lakers

About the only teams it doesn’t impact are ones like Charlotte and Washington which are fricked regardless.

This is why I don’t think we should have agreed to amend the trade so the Lakers and dump salaries and get cap room for Kawhi. The free agents next year that’ll get max money are much weaker than this years, and I think in the long term it would have been better for us.

I don’t think “we” amended shite at that point.

LA found a taker and Washington was throwing us money. Not sure we could have blocked it if we wanted to.

Right, this is a huge reason that most of us don't want Kawhi to go to the Lakers. The other being that the season will be much more interesting if there is no "super team".

Exactly.

The dismemberment of the Warriors makes this a pretty open title chase compared to most of the past 20 years where you pretty much have the Celtics superteam, Heat superteam, Cavs superteam, Lakers superteam, etc.

The last comparable season to this is probably the strike shortened 1999 season after Jordan retired for the second time.

The Lakers are a playoff team whether or not they get KL.
Pels knew they weren't going to be in the lottery. I just want KL in the east to create some breathing room and competitive playoffs in the west, sort of like the east has been.

The Lakers will be in the playoffs next year but the question is where they will be in 4-5 years. If Kawhi signs long term then they will be good for the foreseeable future. If he goes elsewhere then you have an aging Lebron and Davis on a one year deal. So if Lebron/AD thing goes poorly then the LAL could go to shite very quickly if they both bolt.
