That’s true. He also played a majority of his minutes last year at the 4, where now he’s playing much more at the 3.

We always talk about how a stretch 5 would help open things up for Zion, but it looks like Zion can get his no matter what. Maybe we should reframe the issue as a stretch 5 can open things up for Ingram

BI (currently 23)

I think fans forget how young BI is because he’s on his second contract already. He is a 23 year old all star that is developing a deadly perimeter game and is still working on some of his bad iso and shot selection habits.

He was forced to do too much initially as the only real playmaker and he fell back into some old habits.
It is going to take a little time to figure out the roles for Zion and BI, particularly as Zion is rapidly developing his offensive repertoire, but their skills do not overlap too much.

He went to the rim 25% of the time last season at 65%, which again is good.

Not sure what really happened there.
Adams?

That's the first thought that comes up, but I'm not sure if I'm smart enough to really see a difference between Adams or Favors/Jax from last season.

On the surface, I'd think the spacing with Favors/Jax would be similar to spacing with Adams, but again, I'm just guessing there.

He’s already one of the best 3pt shooters in franchise history. Outside of Zion is really the only player on the team that can create his own shot.

As this team is built around him, the less responsibility he will have to have. The more you will understand how he fits in.

But if you really want to focus on something in a vacuum

He’s a 23yr old, 6’8” wing who has shot 40% from 3 over the last two seasons. You start quantifying a value on just that, and the price is high. Not even factoring in his other skills.

I agree with this. Last season and to start this season, he was essentially billed as our best player offensively. If he's your best offensive player, you're probably not going to be a contender. That's not...well it is a knock but you get the idea, it's not hating on him, it's just so.

But as Zion settles in and will be(should be) going forward the #1 option, Ingram's role lessens just a bit. If we could get that big trade for another piece(Beal/Lavine type, doesn't have to be either of those 2) it lessens a bit more, and he can be an efficient 20ppg scorer who we aren't relying on for the bulk of our shot creation.

I think then we will see that Ingram is a really good piece.

I think it’s funny that this franchise has almost never had a competent wing and when we finally find one who is an all star at age 22, some of us want to trade him for Zach fricking LaVine.

I had the same thought too, but it’s adding a healthy Adams AND Zion that makes the difference. When you look at the numbers he played 61% of his minutes last year at the 4 and 38% at the 3. Those have almost completely flipped this year as he’s playing 59% at the 3 and 41% at the 4. So when you think of it more as spacing with Adams/Zion vs Favors/Hart or JJ, it’s easy to see why he has less room to operate.

Jrue also created a ton for BI and, up until a couple of weeks ago, he had no one to create for him. Zion and Kira handling the ball more should make things substantially better for BI moving forward.

LaVine has the best FG% (52%) amongst the entire group of shooting guards with the second highest PPG (28.5)

44% on 8 threes a game taking the opposition's best defender

But he's a chump doe

And still at 25 years old is a black hole on defense

re: I'm just not 100% sold on BI
Ingram is obviously known for his amazing defensive acumen, despite having a much bigger wingspan

If you compare Ingram's stats this year to Beal and Lavine at age 23/5th year, they're practically identical.

We're talking about similar players at different points in their careers/development cycle.

If we had have taken Hunter, BI for LaVine becomes a different story altogether

Not even sure that's the case.

These elite teams have shown the more wings you have, the better you can potentially be.

A longer defender can help a defense moreso than a guard who's limited as well.

There's a plethora of guards who can score. There's a lack of wings who can

Pels Talk needs its own version of Godwins Law, but instead of Hitler being brought up, it’s not drafting Hunter
