How close were our Ho-nets to getting Dame the Great?

My memory is hazy, but if I recall a lot of mock drafts had us swooping down and grabbing both Glassman23 and Dame the Great with our great big Pelican-to-be beak and holding them in our ginormous Pelican-to-be pouch.

Were the Blazers 8 or 9 and we were 10?

Not close. Dame went 6 and the Pels had the 10th pick. Thanks for screwing us Rick Adelman

Wow dumb thread then. 10 is miles away from 6. Thought I remembered lots wanting him pre draft tho

You were probably thinking of Drummond who was drafted 9th

They did, he shot up draft boards, no pun intended. The Pels were just 1 pick away from getting Drummond and starting the #DoItBig era early.

If it makes you feel better, Dell had him #3 on his board. Wanted him.

The thing about that draft that will never make sense to me is that we didn't swap with Toronto, who had #8

Pels really wanted Drummond to pair with AD. He was sitting there at 8, but we knew he wouldn't get past 9. Raptors like Ross and Rivers. I don't know why we didn't give up a future asset or take on a bad contract flip. They still could have gotten their guy and Pels would have had AD and Drummond. THAT is the part of that draft that pisses me off.

Lillard wasn’t close to our pick.

In 2010 we picked 11th. It was cole Aldrich and we traded back to get two picks in the twenties, Brackins and QPon.

The 9th pick was Gordon Hayward, the 10th pick was Paul George.

If I remember right Lilliard was mocked around 12-13 the week or two before the draft and the final round of workouts with teams he skyrocketed up the board.

Either way frick Kevin Love.

No, he was projected to go between 4-6 for the weeks leading up. There was no hope to get him at 10. I know this because we did the 6th pick tournament that year and the winner of that tourney was 'Trade Up' - which argued to get to somewhere between 5-7 for either Lillard or Barnes. Maybe you are thinking of Waiters, who was all over the board in mock drafts and it was a surprise he went 4th

Couldn't have gotten all the way up there. None of those teams wanted to move down that far, but we could've got up to 8 and got Drummond

And Paul George, who I was talking about, was taken in 2010, the pick ahead of us.

Minnesota screwed us hard with their late surge at the end of the season.

But with Drummond there's no Buddy and then there's no Cousins who was a much better talent

If Demp graded him so high, he should have mortgaged the future for Lillard. What could have been...Sigh.

AD and Drummond on rookie contracts together would have been something
