Gentry is selling the idea of bringing an offensive system to New Orleans that would benefit star Anthony Davis, in part the way he did for NBA Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry under Steve Kerr with the Warriors, league sources said.

This is from the initial Woj article on our interest in Gentry. Can anyone tell me specifically what Gentry has done to unleash Steph? I know he's had a ridiculous year, but he's also been playing ridiculously. Last year he had more open shots than this year 31% of shots "open" this year vs 38% last year, and while he is getting more "wide open" shots, it's not by that much, 17.7% last year vs. 20.6% this year.

Their offensive sets are like basketball porn. Compared to Mark Jackson's iso based offense its literally night and day

I'm hoping we sign one of these 2. I can't believe all the support on here for Gentry; the guy is just another "has been" who has a losing record as a head coach.

Gentry is a great assistant coach but not worth a crap when in charge.

I don't think they even know what direction they're going, up or down.

I've tried to talk myself into Gentry and can't do it.

12 years is a massive sample size. He's proven to be a mediocre head coach, at best.

I just can't understand why we'd want to pair Davis with a guy that will be pushing 70 when Davis is in his prime.

His biggest success came coaching prime Steve Nash. Shocker. Nash led the best offenses in the league no matter who his coach was.

Then an assistant for Chris Paul's offense. They were good. Shocker. Plus, the Clippers offense actually got better this year without Gentry.

Now he's an assistant with the deepest, most talented team in the league, and they're good. Shocker. We're really giving him credit for Steph Curry's greatness. Or Klay? Or Draymond? That team is stacked and was gonna progress naturally, no matter who was coaching them. Same with the Pels, imo.

So Gentry points to coaching 3 of the greatest point guards of all time as his selling point. First ballot Hall of Famers. Congrats on that great fortune. Those guys were great before he got there. Led great offenses before he got there, and led great offenses after he left. And i'm sure Steph will be fine without him.

Fyi, McNamara, who claims to know a few people the Pels have talked to and won't divulge the details (lol), set the current odds in his opinion at:

30% JVG
25% Hoiberg
25% Gentry
10% Thibs
10% The field

Gentry's the most meh guy on the list, for me.

Its like giving Pete Carmichael credit for the Saints offense

I think, given the current list, I'm with JVG. Hoiberg ain't coming here.

Yeah, if his sales pitch is "The things I can do for AD, just look at my offenses when I have an MVP caliber PG...". I don't hate anybody on the list, but I'm not expecting Hoiberg so JVG is the only coach I won't have to sell myself on.

I'm beginning to believe it will be JVG.
