Griffin's strategy has to be banking on internal growth and shedding toxic attitudes
Posted by ghost2most on 8/3/21 at 10:12 am385
And, honestly, that makes sense.
We weren't signing a superstar FA (there really were none that fit our timeline anyway), and no mid-tier overpaid FA was going to push us over the top.
If, and of course this is a big if, Zion takes another step, Ingram gets a little better without Bled and Adams clogging things up, NAW and Jax take a similar step forward to last year and Kira takes a step forward, that's enough for the playoffs.
I feel we would have made the playoffs last year without Bled and Adams. Stan really screwed us.
So if the plan is let the core improve and blossom, I can get behind that.
Once we make the playoffs, some of the negative shite will go away and we can start adding outside pieces.
As of now our core is:
Zion
Ingram
Naw
Hayes
Graham
Kira
That's a ton of young talent. If they all get a little better this season, you're in good shape and don't have millions tied up in overpaid role players.
The team's attitude should be much better as well. Negative Stan is out. Indifferent Bled is gone. Lonzo and Klutch are gone.
That's all positive imo.
Internal growth and an attitude refresh are worth at least a 10-game swing imo.

I'd wait until the end of the week to have a well thought out opinion on this roster. Griffin is doing exactly what he said he was going to do at the post season presser. We have added some complimentary pieces but it's not enough at this point in time. At the end of the week, if we can look at the roster and believe we can be an elite spacing team, it'll go a long way in my optimism for the season.

we got better after yesterday, but we're fighting to get to 7th at best

Nah man. John Koktostin says Zion is as good as gone. We're fricked.

Teams that have better odds to win the NBA title at
@betmgm
than they did yesterday:
Heat — 35/1 to 25/1
Bulls — 125/1 to 100/1
Teams that got worse:
Pelicans — 80/1 to 100/1
Raptors — 100/1 to 150/1

Maybe we should wait to see what they do with that capspace they worked so hard to create and maintain. Maybe by then, the fanbase will see what that vision is all about.
quote:Its very obvious what the team is trying to do Surround Zion with shooters and smart players . The question is will it be enough talent and who else will the Pels add. But the image for the team is pretty clear
maybe lol... I'm not a Lonzo guy... I just don't see what this team is trying to do.

Right. Basically we gave up 2 firsts to have this cap space (both 2022 picks). I say the second one is for cap space because we could have kept Lonzo and tried to work it out. So what is the plan with the $20M we can add to Memphis trade?

Teams definitely better than the Pels imo:
Denver
GS
Phoenix - Paul is a year older and you know he's gonna get hurt.
Utah - Gobert was exposed and Conley is a year older.
LAL - This team is going to implode imo.
That's 5.
I don't think the Clippers without Kawhi are clearly better.
I see the Pels, Clippers, Mavericks and Portland as being pretty event.
I think we've clearly passed the Grizzlies and Spurs.

We got a guy who is slightly better than Ball on catch and shoot three for half the price. It cost us either a mid to low 1st or 22nd rounders.
Ball is getting paid because people think he will continue to improve, not because he is so much better than Graham right now.

Have you seen someone confirm it rolls over to 2 2nds?

We are supposed to have a pick swap with the Lakers next year right? If they finish in the lottery can we swap with them and then cha will not get our pick?

Isn’t buddy known for having a bad attitude in Sac? If this is Griffin’s strategy, is all of the buddy to Pels buzz just talk?

The counter point though is the main toxic attitudes we’ve shed:
Lonzo
Bledsoe
Favors
Gundy
All guys brought here by Griff. About the only reason the 2021 roster might be better than the 2019 roster is internal growth of Zion/Ingram/NAW

I think the reality is that this is the off-season we should have had last year. Where we keep flexibility and move on from guys we don’t want to pay long term contracts. But maybe this is the year to do it to prepare for 2022 FA.

Toxic Attitudes
Lonzo
Favors
Bledsoe
Man yall are really reaching to find positives to defend a front office that has no earthly idea how to run a competent franchise.
None of these guys were “toxic”.
We’ve been on this “culture” crusade for 3 years and everyone still hates it here and we can’t attract anyone from the outside to come here on their own accord. This suggests that the problem is at the top within our front office, not with the actual players.
